Title: Clegg family Halifax
Post by: stileslisa9 on Thursday 09 September 10 17:50 BST (UK)
Hi
I am looking for info on the family of John Clegg, 06/1813 Ovenden, Yorkshire - 1896 Halifax his wife was
Sarah Ann c1816 - 1871 Halifax Yorkshire. There children were:
Walker Clegg c1844 Halifax
Adah Clegg c1841 Halifax
John Clegg c1847 Halifax
Ruth Clegg c1851 Halifax
Ziplah Clegg c1839 Halifax
I have found baptisms for all of the girls, Adah, Ruth and Ziplah, but none for the boys. Looking at the Hebrew names, there is obviously a Jewish connection and I would like some help trying to find it??!!!
Many thanks in advance
Lisa

Hi
I wonder if this is one of those cases where the girls are on the IGI but the boys aren't?  If you can look at the original register then you may find the baptisms for the boys in there.  You can usually get the film to search at your nearest LDS family history centre if you cannot get to the local record office.   Or it will probably be at the SOG in London too.  Some of the names are biblical but not necessarily Jewish so that may be a red herring as it is only the girls and I would have thought that it would be important for the boys to have Jewish names too.    Have you found their marriage?
Regards
Andrea
PS - the IGI has the father as James.

I'd have said biblical names, rather than Jewish names.  Many families at that time gave their children biblical names.
