I am searching for Ivor Roberts, born/lived in Monnow Bridge and Mitchell Troy. Born 1904, middle name Ernest I think and later married to Edith (anecdotal). I have searched parish records, Genes Reunited records etc but can't find him and wondered if anyone could point me in the right direction?
Many thanks

Hi,
FreeBMD is a useful site for birth/marriage/death registrations for England and Wales. It's a volunteer site so new records are added every month or so.

Couldn't see an Ivor Ernest Roberts born 1904 though. :-\

Thank you, I'll follow this up. I think I'll ignore the middle name for now and focus on the others. Watch this space ..............

Ivor Roberts used to be an employee (bus driver?) for the Red & White bus services in Herefordshire and on the line to Bredwardine in 1941. May have links to Stroud.

Hello JM - and welcome! :)
Do you have living relatives who might have more information? That's always the best place to start.
Then I would look for a marriage registration - the certificate would give you his father's name, with a bit of luck, and hence narrow down the choices for you when you look on the 1911 census, which would be my next recommendation.
Where did you get his date of birth from, out of interest?
Kind regards, Arranroots ;)

Hi was my Grandfather on my Mum's side. The information is from her Mum,
Thanks :)

Try freebmd for a marriage in Hereford in 1940 - I'm reluctant to post the details as descendants might find the story and not know of Ivor's other marital "career"!
I searched for a marriage to an Ethel, but you originally said Edith incidentally!

that's fabulous, many thanks, can't believe I've found it, I'll follow this up. (I had made a mistake re the name, the last one was correct)
Best wishes

I hope it is the right one - it looks from the index as though Ethel might have been married before, since there are two entries with different surnames.
Good luck!
:)

Yes I noticed that, so that might explain it. I hope it is him but is certainly nearer than I have got before and have obviously now found some great sites in addition to those already searched (and paid for!) You've been a great help :)

I wonder if anyone knows of where I might get the employee information for the Rotherwas Munitions Factory in Hereford, 1940's? Or the Red & White Bus Services (or both?) :)
