John SHAW born 1846 Greenock to James Shaw and Elizabeth Ralston
Married
Mary PALMER 1872 Greenock. Mary was given as 26 years of age.
John SHAW died 1876 in Greenock.
Did John Shaw and Mary Palmer have any children prior to his death ?
And assume she would have remarried. Would she have remarried under her maiden name or married name ?
Any assistance wold be very gratefully appreciated.. :)

Hi Minnie
There are no children showing for John and Mary on IGI which would normally pick up births up to around 1874. They could have had children after this point though, up to the period of their deaths a couple of years later.

Thanks Monica
I did have a look on the igi also and could not find anything. so that only goes up to a certain time ?
Ive only just found James He is the brother of my 2G GMother and got most excited. and then to find his wife and him died so young i was gutted :(
so there is still hope they had a child before their deaths, that would be wonderful if it happened :)

IGI is pretty comprehensive for Scottish births and marriages for that period between the start of statutory registration in 1855 (prior to this, entries are from the Old Parish Registers) and up to around 1874ish, when the Mormons stopped loading on Scottish records of this type. If you do see entries after this date, they tend to be member submitted entries (which clearly show as such on the entry itself under 'messages').
I did try looking on the 1881 census index for any Shaw children born in Greenock between 1872 to 1876, who then showed on the index as staying not with parents but could only see I think one. I've got to go out now, I'll post that later entry just in case it is relevant.
