Shelly,
Would you be able to find information on Thomas William Kane (Kain, Keane) who arrived in Boston on the SS Saxonia March 7, 1905? I tried finding it on Ancestry but I'm guessing they don't have the information uploaded yet.
He may have been traveling with his wife Bridget.
Thank you.
Craig

Where were Thomas and Bridget born. and what year please ?
Ellis Island don't appear to have a listing for 1905 for the Saxonia either ???
Thank You
Sandra

Ellis Island is for New York arrivals only.
Ancestry Immigration records have free access this weekend so you'll be able to search there yourself for Saxonia arriving in Boston in 1905.

It is great to see an active website with people willing to help. Thanks Craig for posting the original inquiry.
Thomas was born in December 1876 in Barna, Keeraun, Gallway, Ireland. His parents were William and Sarah Kelly Kain (spelling is from birth certificate).
According to his application for naturalization he did arrive on the SS Saxonia in March 1905. I have not found a passenger list but I have confirmed that the ship did arrive in Boston on 7 March 1905
The USA Census data for 1901 and 1920 that Sandra and Erato found are indeed the same family, and it is the correct family. Thomas and Bridget are my Grandparents, Mary is my mother and the others listed are my Aunts and Uncle. I have not been able to find direct access to the census and would love to know how Sandra and Erato accessed this data.
According to the 1901 Irish Census Kain became Keane. When Thomas arrived in the USA he became Kane. Thomas was one of 9 children, 4 that I know of came to the USA 5 remained in Ireland.
I have been trying for 5 years to find any relative in Ireland that can help me with information on the siblings that stayed in Ireland. The goal is to find a Kain/Keane/Kane in the Village of Barna, Galway that can help me to fill in the details.
I really would like to know if the sister Anne listed on the 1901 census could possibly be Julia. Thomas had a sister that came to the USA but her name was Julia not Anne. She may have been going by her middle name.
There is so much that I would like to know and I am willing to share all my information on the siblings and their families that came to the USA.
I have posted a picture of Thomas and Bridget taken in 1950 at East Walpole, MA USA
Thank you for whatever help may come from this posting.

Hello Kane,
Welcome to Rootschat
Unfortunately Craig has'nt acknowledged his replies yet but I am sure he will be delighted to make contact with you.
Both Erato and I pay subscriptions to access Census Data and help others.
You would need to make a post on the Ireland board for earlier info on the Keene/Kain/Kane family but if you can link it to this one - it helps.
Just to make you aware and there is a family tree at ancestry.com for a Thomas Kane born Born 17 Dec 1876 in Kerrane, Galway, Ireland and Died 1962 in Stoughton, Massachusetts. He married Bridget Phillips Born 21 Sept 1874 in Cully, Ireland and died 7 Oct 1950 in East Walpole, Massachusetts. The parents are given as William Kain and Sarah Kelly. I suspect this might be yours as it follows Mary Kane born 1909 and died 2008 Massachusetts. You gave details of the photograph you posted as being taken in East Walpole USA so that looks to match as well.
If we can be of further help, please let us know.
Regards
Sandra

Thank you I have found out more from this forum in less than one day than I obtained in searching the web for the past 5 years.
Sandra the census link works for me, I have located all of my GF Thomas Kane siblings that I knew to have come to the USA.
Grub, You solved the mystery about the arrival date for the Saxonia. You also more importantly identified Annie his sister. I had found Annie on the Irish Census in 1901 but only knew her as Julia. She did live at 41 Park St in Brookline. Also my GF Thomas Kane did loose his right eye. I always thought it was from an accident at the paper mill he worked in, now I know that the eye was defective when he arrived in Boston.
Thank you all very much.

Hi Grub,
Great to see you on the threads - hope you are enjoying some relaxation. ;D The name change for Thomas has thrown us for a few days I think but good to see that resolved.
Hi Kane,
Delighted we could help solve a few things for you. Always someone ready to help on here - so fire away if you need further help. Do hope that Craig (the original) poster returns - you may be able to compare notes.

Wow!!!! This is fantastic. All of you are just plain amazing. I am still very new to tracking down information and just getting used to searching under different spellings, etc. Funny thing is I have posted in other forums in the past and received little to no response so I wasn't expecting soooo much information in such a short amount of time!.
Just an FYI, Kane/Keane/Kain is my 1C1R and his request to me spurred me to try this forum for the first time. I will obviously be posting more and trying to offer what help I can for people.
