I thought I had the censuses for Elspet Williamson for 1861/71 but cannot find them. I have the 1841/51 where she is living at Blackdam. She is 60 in the 1851 census and has her granddaughter Elizabeth Findlay 11 years old living with her.
Elspet died in 1872.
Any help with finding her in the 1861/71 censuses would be much appreciated.

Not having much luck on the 1871.
There is a family headed by a Hellen Williamson at Blackdam, aged 77 and b. Elgin but I note that she was there in 1841 as was Elspet so she is not Elspet :-\
Do you have a list of her children that might help?

Elspet had at least 3 boys and 4 girls.
They were all married by 1871. The married names of the females were Ann Anderson c1817, Isobel Alexander c1823, Elspet Gordon c1825 and Jane Taylor c 1815, boys were John 1813, William 1818 and James but he emigrated in 1855.
Thanks

She doesn't seem to be with any of the children.
I'm wondering - there appears to be some missing pages for Blackdam and she might be on there :-\

Hi Betty
I think this could be her - she's using her maiden name instead of married name and living with granddaughter Jane Gordon, in Blackdam, and is down as Elizabeth instead of Elspet.
1871
Elizabeth Sandison, 83
born Alves, Morayshire
Blackdam, Urqhart, Moray
Occupation - Pauper
Jane Gordon, 17
born Duffus, Morayshire
Blackdam, Urqhart, Moray
Occupation - General Domestic Servant

Well spotted but you'd better type it out rather than cut and paste - copyright :-\

Hi Betty
Was your Elspets parents William Sandison and Margaret Cobban ?

Thanks all very much for your help, especially finding the 1871 census. I think Jane must have been more or less brought up by her grandmother. Her mother died young, possibly in childbirth
William Sandison and Margaret Cobban are the parents of Elspet but I have not done any research on that side of the family yet.
Thanks again
Betty
