New Zealand Burial Locator cd has both buried at Purewa in 1935
James Whittaker Bickerton and Joseph Whittaker Bickerton
Purewa site has him as Joseph Whittaker Bickerton, in Block E Row 58 Plot 110, this is where his grandmother Isabella Bickerton (nee' Whittaker), is buried.
Couldn't find on NZ Gen web site any such Bickerton or Whit(t)aker.
He was aged 23 so born about 1912.
Any ideas how to find him so I can tie him into the family.
Thanks Colin

Paperspast website has the following
SEAMAN'S DEATH
ACCIDENT ON THE MAKURA The body of Mr. Joseph Whittaker Bickerton, aged 23, of Auckland, whose death occurred at sea as a result of an accident on the Makura, was brought to Wellington by the ship today. The accident happened while the Makura was en route from Papeete to San Francisco. Mr. Bickerton, who was an ordinary seaman on the vessel, fell from aloft and died immediately. Mr. Bickerton, who was the second son of Mrs. W. S. Bickerton, of Auckland, had been at sea about three years, serving in the coastal trade and also on the cable steamer Recorder. He had been on the Makura about six months. ''

SEAMAN'S DEATH
CEREMONY ON MAKURA A solemn and dignified ceremony was associated with the removal this morning from the Makura of the body of Mr. Joseph Whittaker Bickerton, the young Auckland seaman who fell from aloft and was killed on the last voyage of the ship to San Francisco. The body was brought to Wellington by the Makura yesterday, and yesterday and this morning the ship's flags were flown at half-mast. When the body was transferred to the shore today the ship's company formed up on the saloon deck and the bugler sounded the "Last Post." Members of the Seamen's Union were on the wharf, and they marched with the casket, which was draped with a Union Jack, from the Taranaki Street Wharf to the Monowai, lying at the Queen's Wharf. The body is to be sent by the Monowai to Auckland, where the deceased's mother resides.

So I know where to slot him in but why no death on Reg Gen Web index?

Hi Marcus,
I have been researching my family tree recently and I have found that Lewis Davies (David?) Bickerton is my great, great, great grandfather. In BDM it says that Isabella Bickerton died in 1927 aged 73 which seems right if she was born in 1954 and married Lewis. But I have no documents of their marriage, or Isabella's birth to Peti Hineraro Potatau Te Wherowhero, or Peti's birth to Potatau Te Wherowhero.
Are you able to help me with the actual documents and authentication of this? If I find documents then I can legitimately register to my iwi (Ngaati Maniapoto) and hapuu (Ngaati Mahuta).
Cheers
Scottie
