Title: hulse/hooley from cheshire
Post by: mollymandysb on Wednesday 01 September 10 10:59 BST (UK)
hi

just found out that my fam tree is incorrect but can any hep thomas hooley married a martha tomlinson  28 dec 1847 in over cheshire.  his previous marriage was 28 dec 1845 to anne hulse.  his fam search shows that his father was down as john hulse and his mother martha.  in 1841 he was shown as thomas hooley male servant with john and martha hulse and a maria.  i am trying to find a link that martha was either married before to a hooley or that thomas was illegitmate?

have found a marriage between edward hooley and martha shrigley on 22 march 1813 in gawsworth cheshire but dont know where that is.

any hep appreciated.

if carole w picks this up, just to let u know we are not related to abraham hooley b 1798 (Prestbury.hursdfield) as originally thought.

regards

Hiya...go to www.mapquest.co.uk  then click on directions  then put in
Middlewich (Over)    and in the other box put in Gawsworth  ...result  they are 14.7 miles apart...so less than 15 miles...not a bad find that Edward /Martha...less than 15 miles would have me thinking there is a good chance they are related somehow...allan
Martha Shrigley born 1790 in Frodsham is probably the one .father THOMAS/ mother Dorothy
christened 25th April...extracted record..I have looked from 1785 to 1795 and she is the only one on record ....I suppose I`d best check up to 1799 in reality...just checked...
so...IF we have the right Martha, it would appear to be a Frodsham Family...

just as i was going strong with research, up pops this problem that my line of hooleys hits a brick wall in 1841. thomas hooley was down as a male servant with john hulse and martha hulse but then gets married and puts john hulse down as his dad?? finding it diff to track thomas down so hope the link with edward hooley and martha are right.

tx again

(why do we bother with fam history, if we wait long enuf we shall meet them all!!!!!!)

is frodsham far from gawsworth? i v found that edward and martha had a son called thomas in1818 but he was baptised in macclesfield.

am trying to find the link why thomas was called hooley and yet he put his dad down on his marriage cert as john hulse.

if i went to records office would i get more info from the bt/parish records than u get on famsearch/pilot.

how u getting on with your researc h.

it can be a headache but quite addictive.

Frodsham to Gawsworth is 30 miles...it`s possible Martha moved as a child with her parents...depending on what Thomas Shrigleys occupation was ...the main occupation in that area was to do with SALT....
all you will get is the fathers name and his occupation from the Parish and possibly abode....allan :)

Hi

my thomas hooley married martha tomlinson and they all seemed to come from cheshire.

there is a hooley website under i think www.hulley. just type in hooley fam history and see what u get.

my mom, who has now passed away, always said the hooleys had an irish connection but as yet have not found it, in fact, just found that thomas changed his name from hulse in 1847. have got to go to archives to sort this all out.,

all the best with your research.

There are family's still in the Frodsham area called Hulse as the local pc for Helsby (next village to Frodsham) carried this name in recent times
I live very local to here so if you want any photo's of anywhere give me a shout .
Over, middlewich, and northwich, are as garstonite says main occupation was in Salt
Frodsham is more rural so more likely farming as people in those times didn't tend to travel what we now think of as short disances to work long way on a horse lol.

might take up on that kind offer.  still trying to find out why thomas hooley said john hulse was reputed to be his dad.  am trying to find a link with the hooley family name as hooley relies say the name goes a long way back?

the way i am looking is that in 1841 john hulse was a gamekeeper and thomas was shown as a man servant, not sure what address they were living at, hoping it is a stateley home?  have in my possession a picture of a sarah hooley with a question mark after her name so am wondering if sarah hooley had an illegit child and lived at the same estate as the one john hulse was gamekeeper at and he and his wife took the child in.

must go up to archives and check out birth records.
