My family tree, Doughty, starts in the early 1800's, so far I have traced the following people, they lived in Salthouses, Jackfield, Broseley, and Francis was a Waterman.
Francis Doughty was born between 1805-1810 and married Hannah? they had 10 children between 1836 and 1857, their names are:
William 1836
Francis 1839
Rosannah 1840
Charlotte 1844
Elizabeth 1844
Ann 1846
Marie 1848
Levi 1850
Thomas 1853
Edward 1857
Their second child, Francis Doughty (my direct descendant) married Ellen Woodcock on the 17th August 1863 and so far we have traced their 4 children, we think they may be more, their youngest son, Harry (my direct descendant) was born in 1885. I have traced the tree after them.
I now seem to have come to a dead-end and still having trouble finding anymore records regarding Francis and Hannah in 1800. Can anyone give me some advice on where to turn next?

Hi Clive, and welcome to the forum. ;D
Could this be their marriage?
Francis Doughty married Hannah Parker 11th November 1833, at Wellington, Shropshire.
IGI Batch number M037521 refers.

A possible baptism – the only Shropshire IGI entry for a Francis Doughty between 1800 and 1820:-
Francis Doughty christened 20th March 1813. St Leonard, Broseley, Shropshire.
Parents Francis Doughty and Elizabeth.
Batch No. C011554 refers.

thanks Finbar
On the 1841, 1851, 1861 & 1871 Census Francis Doughty had a different age on each census, so we were not sure of his birth date
Therefore the Baptism you found in 1813 could be correct, and you have given me his parents name to work on.
I will look into this further. Thanks for your help, it is much appreciated.
How did you manage to find this info so quickly? and where from?
Any other info you are aware of would be great !
Thanks
Clive :)

Hi Clive.
The LDS Family Search site.
http://www.familysearch.org/ENG/search/frameset_search.asp
On the left hand side of the page you will see a column of links, all of which can be useful. The one I used was the International Genealogical Index (IGI).
Information found on the IGI is generally either extracted or submitted. If it is extracted, it is a transcript, and will have a 'batch number' as given in my posts, at the foot of the web page. If it is submitted, it is generally information supplied by a researcher, and should be treated with caution.

Thanks for all your help. much appreciated.

The Doughty family go back a long way in this area e.g. Richard Dowty was one of the elected officials at Wenlock Bailiffs Court in 1674 and a John Doughty lived at Bourton in 1524. When looking for anyone in the Broseley area you should include Much Wenlock, Benthall and Madeley in your searches.
Working on the river you should also consider any town on the Severn - I believe there were Doughty's at Tewkesbury in the 1750s.

Francis Doughty also had rights in Shirlett Forest when it was partioned and partly enclosed in 1625. Unfortunatley the original document lists the land in detail and the names of those involved but doesn't match them up together.
According to John Randall in his history of Broseley "The name of ......... DOUGHTY from 1706 to 1716; but the latter is found in old records of earlier dates. The name occurs attached to a deed respecting the partition of Shirlett after it ceased to be a forest, in 1625, and is there spelt Doughtie. In the churchyard is a tombstone to Daniel Doughty at whose death his three handsome daughters were sent for by their aunt who kept the Tobits Dog in St. Paul’s Churchyard, London, and who all married well: one to a Mr. Campbell, a Surgeon, who from the unexpected death of several heirs apparent and presumptive, ultimately became Earl of Breadalbane, and she lived and died Countess of Breadalbane."

Hi Marie
You say you come from Robert Doughty, but so far I havn't come across a Robert, up to 1800.
I have listed the 10 names of the siblings that belonged to my line, Francis Doughty, do you come under any of those?
I am now trying to trace the marriage of Francis Doughty and Elizabeth who married early 1800. Do you have any info on them.
kind regards
Clive

Hello Clive,I have looked at my Doughty tree , and found Francis and his family,
it is a bit of a mystry to me .First I must tell you the information I have all relates to my research into my Doughtys in Shropshire and alot of the information is from fellow reserchers ,it all makes sense until I get to Frances ,all his children are there with him and Hannah.
It says ,I quote; Francis Doughty.1813 ,Francis Doughty could be the son of
Francis Doughty and Elizabeth Baptised 20th march 1813-Broseley Shropshire. unquote.
I have searched through all the information and cannot fine any reference to a Francis and Elizabeth marriage. I have all my Doughtys going back to 1799 it includes all the children and their children. This is my direct ancestors going back four genarations starting with my gt Grandmother Annie Lucilla Doughty, born 1866 ,gt gt grandfather Robert Doughty born 1837,his father also Robert Doughty ,born 1799,his father George Doughty,born1759,
his father ,John Doughty born about 1720.
The only other Francis on the tree is the daughter of Benjamin Doughty and his wife Hannah Griffiths (Francis born 1843). Benjamin is the son of William Doughty and Mary Dyer.
I, m sure we must be on the right track .

Hi
Thanks for replying. I have checked through my tree and I can't find any of those names that you are referring to, maybe we do not come from the same line after all!
I have gone through parish records for Broseley and did find that following Doughty's
John Doughty m. Ann
d Elizabeth 16 Mar 1746
d Sarah 29 Jun 1744
s John 6 Jan 1749
Richard Doughty m. Mary
s Francis 23 Aug 1710
d Sarah 21 Jan 1712
s John 6 Nov 1719
Richard Doughty m Sarah
s Richard 8 Dec 1706
d Elinor 16 Mar 1708
d died 20 May 1714
d Sarah 26 Jun 1716
s William 4 Nov 1725
I am hoping that somewhere along the line my family will match up with one of these, or are there any of yours?
I have not found the marriage for Francis and Elizabeth yet, but they did have another son William Doughty 1790/95, he married Sarah and they had 4 children Harriet, Elizabeth, Emma and Edward.
I am hoping to go to Broseley in October, to look at parish records, if I find anything interesting I will let you know.
Regards
Clive Doughty

Hi Marie
Your John Doughty bp. 1720, is he the son of Richard Doughty & Mary? I think I put it in my earlier message.
I am trying to place my family with yours, but I am stuck with Francis & Elizabeth, maybe they never married! could be a possibility, so I am looking at a birth date for Francis instead. I have a lot of Francis's and Harry/Henry, which is confusing at times!
My wife has done most of the work, she is more observant than me!!
Thanks

This is probably a bit peripheral, but in tracing my Prestage relatives in Broseley I came across a Thomas Doughty, born c1802 and a former waterman, in the 1881 census. He was born at Broseley and lived at Coalford, and was the grandfather of Edith Mary Harrison (b 1877 at Broseley) who married Donald Llewellyn Prestage, the owner of the tileworks at Broseley, in 1911.
