Title: Churchyards or cemeteries in Islington

Hi,

I got a death certificate today for a relative who passed away in 1893 aged just 21 days old. The baby is called James Walter Jackson, he passed away on the 10th September 1893 in Rupert road, Upper Holloway, Islington.
I have no idea where to look to see where he would be laid to rest and would he of had a grave with no headstone or a shared grave.

Can anyone help me please?

Hi Joanne

Unless the family had a plot in a churchyard with space in it, it is highly unlikely he would be buried in a local churchyard. Very few churchyards in central London were accepting burials after the 1840's because they were full to overflowing.

The nearest local authority who may be able to help is the London Borough of Islington

Hi Dawn,

As always you give me good advice. I looked at Valda's links and i sent an email to St Pancras and Islington cemetery to ask if they can help me.
I understand about plots for families, there may well not be one, if so then i think baby James will be an unmarked grave somewhere else.

I hope i find out though, he has a twin Brother i am also searching for.

Hi Joanne - i think its also worth trying the City of London Cemetery.  They covered a huge area of London and i've found several ancestors there (including one who lived in Catford, South London) so worth a shot if you don't find them at any of the Islington & Camden cemeteries.
