Title: Duff family in Jamaica and Portugal - early 19th C
Post by: historyn on Thursday 26 August 10 04:36 BST (UK)
I'm looking for information on two branches of what are probably the same Duff family - one in Jamaica; one in Portugal - about the turn of the 19th century.  Unfortunately, I don't know the fathers, but I'm fairly sure that the ones in Jamaica were planters or merchants, while those in Lisbon, Portugal were probably wine merchants.

I do have is information on four of their daughters:

In Lisbon:   Isabella and Frances Duff, born abt 1820-1825
In Jamaica:  Jemima and Margaret Duff, born abt 1815-1820

Both families were Catholic, and two of the girls, Frances and Jemima, evidently became nuns.

Since this information is related to research I am doing for my PhD, any leads would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers,
Kathy
