Title: Date of photo please
Post by: maryeliza on Tuesday 24 August 10 09:35 BST (UK)
Hello, is anyone able to date this photo please?  It is of a wedding of my great uncle and I think it was taken in Canada.
Many thanks in anticipation.
Maryeliza :)

I am not an expert and someone may come along and give you chapter and verse, my guess would be Edwardian period post 1902 to 1910 as the bride appears to be wearing a Mary Stuart  hair frame this was a device that was attached to the head to  to allow her hair to be shaped so that it gives the face a Heart shape, they appeared post 1902

Possibly a silly question but why don't you refer to the wedding records if you know who's in the picture?

I'd agree with about that date. The men's white bow ties are about the same time.

Date looks about right.

Do you suppose they are in a greenhouse, with that ugly overhead pipe? The vegetation looks more tropical than Canadian.

Cheers,
China

it is an odd place to have a wedding picture taken, especially one thats not in colour  :-\ I wonder if they were involved in the botanical bussiness somehow? or maybe it was just a very cold day  ???

Thanks to everyone who replied so promptly.
The groom was born in 1887.  I know he was married once in 1913 in Canada as I found that marriage record. Wife died in 1919.  The name on the reverse of this postcard (sent to my Nan) does not match that of the 1913 bride, and it gives no clues as to place.  Family oral history has it that he married twice - but I have no idea when or where, only that he emigrated to Canada at some stage prior to 1913 and stayed there. No emigration / immigration records found yet.
