Title: John Rowland BENNETT
Post by: marlastorie1 on Monday 23 August 10 23:35 BST (UK)
Hi...I am looking for family history of JOHN ROWLAND BENNETT. I don't have a date of birth or where he was born , but what I do have is this...JOHN ROWLAND BENNETT was listed on my moms birth certificate. Her name was MARION BENNETT born JAN.20,1918 in BRISTOL,SOMERSET,ENGLAND. Her mothers name was LILLIAN VALERIE M TASKER born 1885 in CHIPPENHAM,WILTSHIRE,ENGLAND. The birth certificate shows JOHN as being a LT. in the ROYAL FLYING CORPS as a CONSTRUCTIONAL ENGINEER in 1918. It lists LILLIAN as being his wife and the house address was 20 BRENTRY RD in BRISTOL.
I have been asking for help since June of this year and although some nice people have sent me a bit of info, it has not lead to anything concrete. Please believe me when I say that I am only trying to fill in the blanks on my family tree...I do not want any member of JOHN'S family, living today, to think I am after anything except to try to put my family history into words. I realize that if JOHN truly is my grandfather, it may have been a bit of a sticky situation back then, that he may have already been married and that my grandmother may have used his name on the birth certificate without really being married to him. I understand that this could be an awkward situation but I really just need help finding some info on him.
If anyone can tell me if JOHN was my grandfather or at least point me in the right direction, I would be truly grateful.
Thanks for listening..

Sincerely,Marla

You were given his birth registration and a lot of other info on your last post

It is also clear why there was no marriage to Lillian Tasker - he was already married.

Hi...yes, I purchased my moms birth certificate. That is the only clue I have as to who my grandfather was. Everyone that could have helped me answer my questions are all passed away. I have a family tree on Ancestry.ca and have found lots of info on my grandmother but have hit a wall where John Rowland Bennett is concerned. I have looked for his military records and there are a lot of John Bennetts but without knowing anything else about him, I haven't got a clue which John Bennett to actually research.
Thanks for your interest and I hope you may know something about him.

Sincerely,
Marla

No it isn't - you know where and when he was born and who his parents were.  You also know who he married and details of a child (now deceased) to that marriage

It seems very clear that he was still married when your mother was born

Did you follow up on any of the info I gave in your last post (ie) buying the death cert for his son to get more info via the informant etc

Did you check freebmd for details of the other son born to his marriage etc

I did read everything that was sent but I just wasn't sure if it was the right man and I didn't want to enter anything in my tree that wasn't correct. I know there was a lot of info that you sent but how do I make sure it is the right person or not? I don't know how to do that.
I did and still do appreciate all you sent.

Sincerely,
Marla

This is the opening line of your previous post

I am looking for any info on JOHN ROWLAND BENNET born abt 1885, WEST DERBY.He is listed on my Moms' birth certificate as her birth father

At that point - there was no suggestion as to any uncertainty re: his identity so all info given was based on the facts you gave

If you are now saying you have doubts that your info is correct ...........?

but how do I make sure it is the right person or not

An impossibility at this late stage as the main characters are now deceased so have taken that info with them

You can only work on "balance of probability"  Freebmd has only 2 birth registrations for that name - the one given and another in 1875
