http://www.rootschat.com/links/09kt/
N.B. Just incase this turns out to be a possibility the William in reply 1-
was married to Lillian Steckmeister and she died in 1959. If that was him in 1930 then it would indicate he was married twice.
The link below is for the Public Library in Jefferson. Alabama which has an Ask The Librarian link (under Services). Would it be worth an e-mail to see if you could get any further information re the 1974 death of William Lea.
I can also see a death for a Mary C Lea born 1919 died 2008 in Birmingham. Jefferson. Alabama (if she were the correct one it would make her alot younger than William) ??? So an Obituary may help out if one can be found ???

There are lots of helpful databases for the Fort Wayne, Indiana area here - http://www.genealogycenter.info/fwacdb.php/ Your Lea family seems to show up in a few, including the obituary index. The library will provide the obituaries for a small fee, or there is a volunteer in Allen Co., Indiana on www.raogk.org who does obituary look-ups.

Hi William,
Your most welcome. Importantly though I think that poves that they were brothers finding that death entry for William Lea which was one of the things you were'nt sure about earlier.

Yes many thanks Sandra,it was the Birthplace I found for William Alfred Maddocks Lea of Woowich London that led me to think he may have been his Uncles child as his Uncle John Maddocks Lea was living there in 1901.The Maddocks coming from the Margaret Maddocks who was John M and William Sr's Mother. To think I started with just one of this Lea family in c 1700 and I'm approaching 200 descendants that I've found thus far.
Regards
William Russell Jones.
-
The 200 descendants are slightly misleading in that I've found 200 with the Surname Lea.There are of course many more with other Surnames like myself!
Regards
William Russell Jones.

Hopefully this is the right connection for William's wife. In reply 17, I mentioned a Mary C Lea and have found part of an Obituary for her and it is addressed to her children - which is only 1 son - I can't put the name because he is still living but you would'nt have to be Einstein to guess !!!! (his wife and daughter were also mentioned) I believe he lives in Birmingham. Alabama so will send pm with details.
The death record for William said Mary Jacquelyn Cole Lea
Mary C. Lea
Death Date: 14 Dec 2008
Obituary Date: 16 Dec 2008
Newspaper Title: Birmingham News. Alabama. USA
In the guest book someone has written:- We are so sorry to learn of Jack's death. She was a joy at family reunions and loved sharing stories about her family. She was a delight to know through the years. She will be missed.......

Claude Maxwell Lea was my grandfather. I just happened to find this site today when I googled his name just for the heck of it.
Florence was my grandmother. Lloyd was my father (I miss him so much!). John (Jack) was my uncle. I never met Claude because he died before I was born.
I'm not accustomed to this site but I would enjoy learning more about my relatives over there in England.

Hi Val,an extra special welcome to Rootschat for one of my Lea cousins.I have no marriage partner for your father,,whilst I have your Uncle John(Jack) Alfred Claude Lea marrying a Katherine I Gaskill in 1948.

A new member is also looking for details of this Lea family so I've posted a link there to this thread.
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=747190.new#new
To clear up a few bits posted earlier in this topic-
It seems likely that Claude and Florence married in the UK and travelled separately to the USA.
No, Claud M. Lea, son of William A., and Florence Garnett were married 16 Aug.1919 in Belfast
She had been to her brother-in-law - Mr John Lea. Coleraine. County Derry.
Strange because the 1911 census shows Lilian Lea had 3 children- Claud, William & a daughter Margaret.
Claude shows as married on that 1920 passenger list and it names his wife Florence Lee living at 6 Edenderry Gardens. Belfast
6 Edenderry Gardens is on Tennant St. (discussed in new topic)
I'm on the trail of a Florence Garnett born in Durham in 1898 the daughter of John and Hannah Garnett.
The 1919 marriage shows Florence Garnett's father as John.
There's a death 16 May 1945 for an Eliza Lea, age 83, Coleraine district (Portstewart sub-district). This is the only Lea death in the Coleraine district from 1910-1969. You can view the certificate on GRONI's site after purchasing a few credits.
https://geni.nidirect.gov.uk/
John Lea of Coleraine was actually John Wilson Rea who married Margaret Lea-
