Hi
Again you need to give some dates of birth and any family info
cheers cardiff ???

If you look on http://www.freebmd.org.uk/ for the births of Alfred and Lily Bowen in 1914 it would appear that they had a mother’s maiden name of Knowles
If you then look for a marriage of a male Bowen and a female Knowles, prior to 1914, at Chester, you can find the pairing of Hugh William Bowen and Sarah Ann Knowles in the first quarter of 1902 at Chester (GRO reference 8a 670). The GRO index shows him as Joseph W Bowen but his name was Hugh.
Hugh William Bowen's birth was registered in 1881 at Corwen, Merionethshire. Sarah Ann Knowles was born in 1880 at Barrow, Cheshire
Subject to checking with appropriate certificates etc, it would seem that these two people could be the parents of Alfred and Lily Bowen

Hi
The Knowles family in the Bowen line come from Barrow in Cheshire. John Knowles and Mary Darlington were married there in 1795 and had 12 children in all, one who died at birth. Only Daniel and Mary (married a Woodcock) stayed in Barrow, and Joseph and Margaret Ann are his children. Are you following the Griffitths family through Mary Griffiths who married Daniel Knowles?

Hi again.
I replied to your post in 2012 - just looking at the thread again and realize that we must be related! Joseph Knowles, brother of Margaret Ann Knowles is my g grandfather. I have done quite a bit of research on the family of Margaret Ann and would be happy to share with you (although you may prefer to do the searching yourself!!). Would love to know more about your family.

Hi,
Thought I would pop a message on here, I have only just started looking at the Knowles side of family as Sarah Knowles (daughter of John Knowles and Mary Darlington) was married to my Great Great Great Grandfather Joseph Davies.
I've still got a long way to go and look at other family members through marriages as originally was just trying to search my line which was the Davies.

Hi Julie,
good to hear from you and yes we must be related as I am also descended from John Knowles and Mary Darlington re my great great grandfather Daniel. My initial mission in family history was to trace the 11 surviving children of John and Mary. Sarah was the last I found and then only by using first name searches in the census. It was further complicated as she was baptized Sally and this is a family name on the Darlington side of that family. This is still the branch I have the least information on. There are Bowens in another branch of this family - it looks like a connection but not quite sure at this point. Will check it out in the near future.
Any help you need, just ask - I am still very active in researching this family line.

Hi Andrea,
Thanks for replying. I have only started a few weeks ago and had a lot of help from members on here as I would be lost trying myself. I had to order a certificate to find Sarah's maiden name but then was told today that she was born Sally, just to confuse me a bit more.
I have concentrated on the Davies side but then found maiden names and then more and more extended families are appearing, I haven't even looked at where and what happened with quite a lot of the children from the Davies family yet! I do find it interesting though.
I have more family to research, who I have bits of info on, but every surname is very common and especially for the area they are all from which is in North Wales.
It would be good to stay in touch about anything we both discover.
You can throw a Davies into it now via marriage!
Julie.

Andrea,
I have just noticed you had said you were originally tracing the 11 surviving children, I must be missing some.
I have
George Moore Knowles 1797
Sally Knowles 1799
John Knowles 1801 (died)
John Knowles 1803
Thomas Knowles 1806
Joseph Knowles 1808
William Knowles 1809
Mary Knowles 1811
Samuel Knowles 1813
Daniel Knowles 1819
I'd be grateful if you could fill in who I'm missing.
Julie.
