Title: horse barracks in cardiff

can anyone tell me where horse barracks, an address in cardiff in the 1850's, is? near which street, it is listed as the parish of 'st john the baptist'. thanks

Hi
 St Johns is in the centre of the city. There is an army barracks bottom of Whitchurch Road (whitchurch Rd is not to be confused with the Village of Whitchurch) but you can access it from North Rd which  is the main road into cardiff from junction 32 M4 and A470 Merthyr/Pontypridd/Rhondda.
Just had a brain wave its called Maindy barracks.
Not sure if this really is of any help.

The 1851 map of Cardiff shows 'Barrack Lane' running parallel to Charles Street. Charles Street still exists today. It would also have fallen within the boundary of St John the Baptist.
Although I cannot make out a barrack on the map, it would make sense that there was indeed a barrack there at some time. Glamorgan  Records Office would be able to assist you.

I've just typed in 'Barrack Lane, Cardiff' on Google map and it still exists and shows you where it is.
