Hi
There are quite a few Thomas Cooks in London. Do you have Thomas and his wife Mary Ann on any censuses, or have any further information on them - names of children, to help track them to track back from them.

The witnesses at the marriage were Frederick and Susan WINDSOR.
Frederick WINDSOR married Susanna JONES at St Giles Cripplegate on 2 Nov 1841. Her father is given as James JONES, farrier. Their address is Moor Lane, with is the same as Thomas COOK and Mary Ann JONES.
Susanna was born St Giles c1826 according to 1851, and her mother was Elizabeth, a widow.
Can't seem to find them earlier, but would suspect there is some connection between Susanna and Mary Ann.

I have checked the 1851 census for Moor Lane St Giles Cripplegate. This comes under the City of London in piece no HO107/1525 scattered thro' various folios, 72-78,79-81,84, 85-87,90-91, 91-92.
No-one by the name of Cook or Jones found.
The only other census info found was.
1881 census
RG11/450 folio 69 page 31
4, Mayfield Buildings St George in the East.
Thomas Cook head age 51 Stone Mason b Whitechapel
Mary ann wife ahe 48 b St George in the East.
William son age 14 b ditto
The profession Stone Mason could relate to the one of Potter Merchant.

Have now checked the 1841 census..
1841 census
HO107/727 book 3 folios, 4, 8, 12-13, 17-18
Unfortunately, no-one by the name of Cook or Jones found
It is possible the neither the Cook or Jones familes were actually living in Moor Lane but was simply an "address of convenience" I have come across this myslf in my own research, strangly enough, with two marriages at St Giles Cripplegate. St Giles is actually within the Barbican area of the City of London, my two families were living at the north end of Goswell road, part of which is Clerkenwell & part Islington. Today the St Giles church which was rebuilt when the Barbican area was redeveloped is close to Aldersgate Street a coninutation of which to the north is Goswell Road. My families gave the name of a road quite close to St Giles but were certainly not living there as I have them on census in Goswell Road, why they should have wished to be married at St Giles I don't know, it may have been something to do with the banns being called for 3 weeks before the wedding. If the had given their correst address, the banns would have to have been called at two churches.
Something I did notice on the marriage of Thomas Cook to Mary Ann Jones was that it took place on Christmas Day. Many marriages were arranged for that day if any one if the family worked in a shop as it was sometimes the only day they were sure of having free, & Thomas' father was a butcher perhaps in a shop..

As I stated that this is the oly information that I have is what is one the Marriage certificate
Would it be possible to find out where they may have lived , as in 1858 Thomas & Mary Ann Cook left England with their 2 daughters Elizabeth Cook, Mary Ann Cook on the ship the " Mary Ann " bound for New Zealand
Mary Ann Cook nee Jones died in 1870 at the age of 41
Elizabeth Cook was the youngest age was 19 in 1871 when she married
Maybe on the 1851 Census
Mary Ann Cook was the elder and married in 1867
On the Death certificate of Thomas Cook place of birth is listed as London
age when he married is given as 20 years old
Thomas Cook died in 1899 at the age of 76 Bell Block Taranaki New Zealand
Is Middlesex close to St Giles With Cripplegate
So from 1847 to 1858 after they married I have no idea where they lived except what is listed on the marriage certificate

HI Valda
I did a print out of what you have found and maybe you can help here
On the census you have Mary Ann Cook 21 Married and then you have Bloomsbury , I presume that is where she was born ?
The marriage of Thomas Cook & Martha Maria Pope withe the location as ST George , Hanover Square
Where abouts is that location as there are a lot ? I am not certain of which location

Hi
Westminster parish map (parishes combined to form larger civil registration districts after the start of civil registration 1st July 1837 based on the poor law unions. The civil registration districts/poor law unions were often but not always named after one of the parishes)
http://homepages.gold.ac.uk/genuki/MDX/Westminster/outline.htm
also shows the position of Bloomsbury and the square mile of the City of London (at this point all that was officially London though it was spreading rapidly and engulfing the surrounding areas such as Westminster in the county of Middlesex). The square mile of the City had over time more than a 100 parish churches. The map of Westminster parishes shows some are larger (none are large) than others - so all very close together.

Mary N Isaacks 9 Daughter City
Thos Edwd Isaacks 2 Son Southwark
The three possible marriages for a William George Cook in the London area up to 1861 do not have a father called Thomas. If he lived he could have married just as a William. There is a William Cook aged 27 who gives a birth place of Long Acre on the 1851 census but then there were quite a few William Cooks in London.
