Post by: dawnuk57 on Sunday 15 August 10 01:41 BST (UK)
I'm reserarcing my husbands family tree but need a little help please. I have a Thomas Glenton born abt 1801 (possibly Bridlington) he married RACHEL DAWSON b. abt 1802 on 4th July 1825 Bridlington.
I'm trying to find Thomas Glenton's parents, any help much appreciated.
Ive found 3 children of Thomas & Rachel so far,
Ann Glenton b. 1828 Bridlington
Ambrose Glenton b. abt 1830 Bridlington
George Glenton b. abt 1833 Bridlington

IGI extracted christening records show Ambrose Glenton and Georgwe Glenton (parents Thomas Glenton & Rachael ) were both christened on the same day 13 Jun 1830 Bridlington. (so maybe George's birth date of 1833 is wrong)
I cannot find Ambrose or george on census - Thomas and Rachel only have Ann living with them in 1841 - and they are living with married Ann and husband in 1851

Do you have George and Ambrose on any census???

1851 Thomas'p.o.b. is given as Flamboro Yorks

IGI extracted has christening of Thomas Glenton 11 Jan 1800 Flamborough Yorks -no parents given

There are a couple of submitted records (so have to be treated with some caution) which give birth Thomas Glenton 11 jan 1799 Flamborough parents Ambrose Glenton & Sarah Stavoloy

????

Dear Dawnuk57,
Here is the marriage entry from the Parish Records as published by the EYFHS.
04 July 1825, Thomas Glenton, bach, and Rachel Dawson a minor botp, Banns with consent by Geo Smith, he signed she marked X, witnessed by Rt Kemplay & Mary Loadman.
Baptisms,
Ann Glenton 31/08/1828 daur Thomas & Rachel Glenton, Labourer,
George Glenton, 13 June 1830 son of Thomas & Rachel Glenton, ofBridlington, Labouer, (aged 10months)
Ambrose Glenton, 13 June 1830 son of Thomas & Rachel Glenton of Bridlington, Labourer, (aged 5years)
I look for a Thomas Glenton in records c1802 but found none with that name although there are a few others. also no other Baptisms for anymore children to Thomas & Rachel up to 1837 in Bridlington.

best wishes,

Dear DawnUK57,
Just try Flambro, there are plenty of Glentons born here and a Thomas born in 1800, may also be more children for Thomas & Rachel born there.

Many thanks for your help here, it is a confusing one, ive a feeling that Ambrose could be the father of Thommas as the name Ambrose comes up a few times later in the tree. So it could be Thomas of 1799? I will keep searching & trying.... thanks again

Good Morning.

I am a Glenton. I've come across your search of Glenton's in Flamborough. My Grandad was from there (Willie Glenton) I have some paperwork somewhere with details on. I'm sure I've seen the name Ambrose too. Where are you from? I look forward to your reply. Sophie.

Welcome to RootsChat  :)

Unfortunately dawnuk57 hasn't been on-line since 2010.  However, perhaps an e-mail will get through and they will respond.
