I would love to be able to see the image of my grandmother, her half sister and either her mother or possibly her grandmother more clearly. The date is likely to be around 1872. Any efforts would be very much appreciated but I would quite understand if this particular image is simply beyond improvement.

as this is badly damaged it needs to be rescanned at a higher resolution to help us improve it.
A resolution of between 300-600 dpi would nor only give us more to work with but will give you better results.

Thank you so much, Irene, but sadly, I never had the original. I took a copy on my camera from another relative. This is all I have.
-
Does the relative have the ability to scan the original?
-
Such a wealth of detail waiting in the photo even now.
Pity we don't have a better scan......... :-\

Hi hudsonh,
Do you have a photograph in colour? Even that might be enough of an improvement for the restorers to have a go with...
Prue :)

Sadly, I have nothing but this picture and a relative many miles away who doesn't have a scanner.

Brave try, ausdixie.
I'm having trouble with the hands.
I simply can't figure the way the girl is holding that hat! Logic says we should be able to see her fingers... but I can't find any.
I reckon she's holding something on the inside... well, that's my story and I'm sticking to it :-[
-
well this is the best I can do.... :-[

Sepia looks good with this one, Irene.
I'm wondering what the white 'blocks' by the little one's hands are?
I see everyone is cutting them out... and I've left them in oh well, always was a rebel :D

I've got three pairs... none of them are helping...
Imagination in overdrive........ ???

I'm going to miss this one, it's almost become a permanent fixture on the desktop :D
Not brilliant, but it's different.....

paulatoo, can`t help with the picture but the hat would probably have elastic inside which went under the chin to keep it on. We used to carry our school hats by the elastic so as not to curl the brim, it was the easiest way. We are seeing the outer crown of the hat so the girl`s hand is inside and hidden.
Some really good tries at restoration. Cheerio, Viktoria.

Sounds good to me, Viktoria
