Hi
I'm stuck! I have found my G G Grandfather David Winton Law born Gamrie 1838 but can find no trace of his father Alexander Law! I have an old family tree that states he was born1780 and died 1840 but can't find any evidence to support this. The same tree shows his father as being James Law 1750-1810 but again have nothing to support this. I know he had def died by 1864 as he is shown as deceased on David Law's wed cert. the cert and his 1st marriage cert show him to be a gamekeeper.
I would be very grateful if anyone can help? I've been stuck for a while now!
Yours hopefully

hi Macbaryn :)
was david winton law's mother elspet winton ?
elspet winton born 1815 forglen banffshire to james winton and jane duncan
(IGI)
it looks like david was with his grandparents at gamrie in 1841(james and jane
winton) - no sign of mother or father(freeCEN)
there is an elspet winDon age 20(age possibly rounded down) female servant
at gamrie on 1841 census(freeCEN)
if this is david's mother perhaps she was widowed young and went back to
her maiden name or maybe she never married alexander law :-\

Hi Ev
Thanks for your replies, Yes Elspet Winton was his mother I have Elspet and her family all sorted, have even been delving into a bit of local history about where she was living and if there was a possibility she would meet this gamekeeper anywhere but no luck as yet. This Alexander Law must have dies before the 1941 census just my luck....
I don't think they did marry can't find any records and she is listed as unmarried in the 1941 census and was still Winton when she died.
I appreciate your efforts!
