Having researched the mallard side and now traced over 90 descendents l seem to have got stuck with the leach side l can find my grandfather in 1911 and my great grandfather in the same year . Its seems he came from London and l get stuck before 1901 l Know he was born in 1881 . but between these years there seems to be a gap l would love some help please to plug this gap if possible
Also l would love to work out whether James leach residing with the rance family in 1911 is related to james leach as the address's are close by and we have always assumed he had a brother
l now have a new one
Thomas mallard married 1853 he married either mary ann herne or a mary ann billing (billington)
once again any help would be appreciated.
Many thanks to all concerned who have helped trace the mallard side which links into many other surnames griffiths, minor, hern, tresler, beal (so far)
-
Welcome to Rootschat!
Can you give some more details regarding names of your MALLARD family in Duston. There are quite a few of them in that parish on the 1881 census - if you can confirm names, then I can try tracing them backwards/forwards.
Pennie
-
hi thanks for the answer
most of the Mallards are related as being from hollowell welton and surrounding , Henry W Mallard and Anny with harry and thomas
but l think george and william mallard where brothers l think my great great grandfather was a gardener my great grandfather was harry minor mallard
-
I have information on that Leach family. Which one is your relation?
-
my grandfather was Charles Leonard leach born in northampton in 1904 any information on the leach side would be gratefully received would love to find out his mothers maiden name also
-
Do you know who his father was?
-
hi sorry l dont know who his father is stilll trying to work out which part of the leach family he is linked to as there seems to be quite a few leach families in the same street
-
I suggest you get a copy of his birth certificate, this will tell you his parents names, including his mother's maiden name.
Then I can probably connect them to the family tree.
-
Hi Phil.
Welcome from me also. :)
I think one family to keep in mind is Robert Leach who married Annie Elizabeth Taylor in 1903.
The 1911 Census is free to view here http://www.1911census.co.uk/
In the 1928 directory they are living in Ruskin Road.

Hi again Phil.
I see that Charles L Leach was buried 1974 in Duston Cem
and his wife Dulcie E Leach in 1988.
Sandy
-
That brings us to Dulcie E Mallard marrying Charles L Leach in 1929.
Sandy
-
Okay so Dulcie was born in 1905.

Hi Phil.
Having found the marriage of Henry W Mallard to Anne Minor 1878
I think the lineage is now going down on the maternal line.
Harry Mallard Minor was born in Daventry District
(covers Welton) in the Sep Qtr of 1878.
It seems as though Henry W Mallard is accepted as being the father.
I think maybe getting some proof might help.

hi all this help is invaluable going back a few posts the new buildings address is where l was born it became peveril road in old duston .
l now have another question charles leonard leach had a brother we think his name was john (l think it could have been james ) all we know is that he was an inpatient at st crispens hospital for a lot of his life and died there is there any way of checking this?
-
Hi Phill.
Although the Northamptonshire Record Office have records
for St Crispins there is a 100 year restriction.
Have you any idea when John/James died.
I can not see a burial at Duston or elsewhere.
Could he have been cremated.
Sandy
-
hi
we think he died in the late 1960's to early 1970's as my grandad used to visit him regulary . we might have even met him when we were children but neither my brother or myself can remember. its been a family secret for many years that we knew nothing about as you say he may have been cremated all we know is that he was my grandads brother .
-
Hi Phill.
You could try asking at The Crem.

Thanks Sandy l will give them a ring
-
a further question for the forum can anyone tell me where tanyard cottages where located , were they in duston near the squirells pub
-
Robert Leach is not in my Leach tree, but that doesn't mean he doesn't belong.
hopefully phill55 will be able to get birth details for Charles Leonard.
-
Hi Phill.
I looked to see if Charles married in Kingsthorpe Parish Church
today, no marriage noted there.
Sandy
-
I also checked Welton Baptisms for Henry M Mallard/Minor.
Not noted in the time frame or later.
Checked for a marriage also between Henry and Ann at Welton
not there.
Sandy
-
Hi again Phill.
I also checked Dallington, Duston, St James Churches for a marriage
not there,so possibly a Register Office one, or further Town wards.
Sandy

Welcome to Rootschat.
I will P.M. you in a while. :)
Sandy
-
l'd like to add in now another branch of the family (sparrow) Mary elsie mallard (1904)married john charles sparrow(1895) Sep 1937
l think john came from blisworth but can see no birth for northampton or surrounding or family members
-
There's a pic of George Mallard in 1918, in a civvy covered uniform on p59 of Fred Golby's 1992 book on the history of Duston
-
Ah Fred, bless him.
Phil can you find John on the 1901 census at all.
Sandy
-
Phil are you sure he didn't change his name around.
There is a Charles Sparrow in Far Cotton in Abbey Road on the 1901.
He is also noted as Charles John Sparrow elsewhere.
I have a 1928 directory for the Town, I will see if I can find him in it.
Sandy
-
There does not seem to be an entry that is correct name
unless it is this one.
Charles Sparrow 7, Stimpson Avenue, although they may not
have paid to have an entry inserted.
Sandy
-
hi
First off yes fred golby l remember him as a child he used to go drinking with my dad occasionally . he did have quite a few off my family photos . my auntie vera was a great collector of pictures etc,
and my uncle charlie was indeed john charles sparrow . as far as l know he did live in blisworth a set of cottages on the left hand side as on the bend as you drive in to the village from northampton.
l will see if my brother or auntie has a death certificate for him.
l only know that my auntie and him brought my father up and they always lived on welford road a large house on the left hand side. l also remember being told that my auntie was one iof the very first women to hold a driving licence (l shall not go into women driver etc!!!!)
-
Hi Phil.
I used to see Fred at Upton Church on Heritage Days, gosh we
are nearly at this years.
And I also lived in Welford Road as a child, the building was called
"Highfield House" children's home which got burnt down in later years.
From there we walked to Chris Sale's every Saturday with our sixpences
burning holes in our pockets.
For school we went to Chapel Brampton.
Then I also lived in a foster home in Kingsway until I was 13.
Sandy
-
Just a thought Phil.
Have you got George Freeston's Scrapbook of Blisworth Cd.
I wonder if John or family are mentioned on it.
It is copyrighted so I would not be able to quote here.

ok some more help if at all possible on the leach side (l am so grateful for all the help l have received so far ) l have now 175 names across my family tree so far and still have a long way to go
The main one now is the leach side discovering the family both maternal side and paternal sides from 1911 charles leonard leach's family we think he may have had 2 brothers and 1 sister . trying to see were they went too .
-
help required after speaking to my brother a name has cropped up regards as what we assume was a relative or family friend who emigrated to Australia her name was Nellie Grubb
l have found her on the emigration list
as GRUBB Nellie 1873 F 1925 London Australia Melbourne
and can find no more about her whether this was her married or maiden name l do not not know any help would be appreciated
-
Thanks for helping me with the mallard side just got to track the leach side now
-
There is a Nellie Grubb arriving in London from Hobart in 1925.
It says
Wm C Grubb Born about 1844 Proposed residence in UK 135 Clare Street, Northampton, retired merchant
Nellie Grubb Born about 1873, Rank or profession = DD (??)
Last permanent country of residence Tasmania.
I think he is William Coleman Grubb. Born in Shutlanger 1843. Married Sarah Ann Parler in Hobart in 1868. They had 4 children, one being Ellen (Nellie I assume) born in 1872. She died in Queensland in 1940. I googled William Coleman Grubb and found a Stoke Bruerne family website that said this family moved to Tasmania in 1860/1870 and that William came back for a visit in 1925, age 80 with his daughter Nellie. So I think this is the one you are looking for.
So if you know who was living at 135 Clare Street in 1925 you might be able to work out the family connection??
