Hi,
I found an online resource but my ancestors are not there. Do i need to contact the churches in Neston, Cheshire? Sorry I'm new. I'm looking for a Mealor or Maelor surname in Neston also possibly a Dennis surname.
Thanks
Sarah

Hi Sarah
Welcome to Rootschat
What online resources have you tried?
Familysearch Record Search may be of help. Go to Search or Browse our Record Collections.
Select Europe, scroll down to United Kingdom and you will see several Cheshire databases.

Or look in CPRdb http://www.csc.liv.ac.uk/~cprdb/

Hi
It is very unlikely that the records will still be at the church. Nearly all are now held at the local record office. It will be worth checking the local family history society to see if they have done any transcripts. http://www.ukbmd.org.uk/genuki/chs/neston.html may be helpful too.
I will move this to Cheshire so that you get some local help.

Andrea

Thankyou all very much.
I'm trying to pick up where my dad has come unstuck with this. The family search website looks like a great resource. The Cheshire Parish Register Project online is the one I had tried. So far the ancestors i'm looking for aren't appearing. I will give Chester records office a try, thankyou. If this doesn't turn up, they may have been recorded in Flintshire Parish records. But, I've a feeling they're not going to be on any records. ::)
Thanks again,
Sarah

Hi Sarah,
The Cheshire Parish Register project only goes up to about 1871 - so if you are looking after that you won't find anything. If it is earlier than that you can assume that Neston is not the right place.
If you can give us some idea of dates we might be able to help...

Hi
Welcome to Rootschat Sarah
I think Birkenhead Central Library have some parish records for the church of St Mary and St Helen in Neston on microfilm.
There are various records starting from 1559 but there are gaps in the years available.
I could have a look for you next time I go but it will probably won't be for a week or two - or someone might be going there before me.
There's a chance that they're the same records that you've looked at on line on the Cheshire Parish Register site - but it might be worth checking.
Your ancestors might have been baptised/married in the years that aren't covered - i.e. the gaps which maybe why you can't find them in Neston.
Hope this makes sense!
As Jean says it might be another parish.
Regards
Neptune
P.S. Let me know if you would like to know the years covered on microfilm for Neston at Birkenhead Library.

Hi,
Thanks very much for your replies, and for the welcome. Apologies but last night, I think I found what i was looking for. Bear with me..
We were looking for a marriage between a William Dennis and Elizabeth Mealor or Maelor, wanting to find out who Elizabeth's parents were. As regards to the marriage date, we were unsure, only knowing that their second child Jane was born in Neston in 1835. But going through dad's old notes last night, I found something headed 'family group record' (not sure what this, something produced by a local genealogy group??). The record lists everyone in the family of William and Elizabeth, including Elizabeth's parents who were called Thomas and Jane Mealor. Again, from dad's notes I found a page of baptisms from Neston parish registers showing the birth of Elizabeth in 1815, noting her parents Thomas and Jane, which answers my question. So the next step i think is to search for Thomas and Jane Mealor. ( Still not sure where Elizabeth+William Dennis were married.) Birkenhead and Chester are not far away at all for me, so with me getting forgetful and convaluted, and not having accuracy with the dates at the moment I wouldn't like to put any one out but thanks very, very much for the kind offer. Thanks for reading if you got through all that!

Hi the Mealor family had a plough makers in Ness (which is the village next door to Neston) I've attached a link to a website where there is a photo, scroll through the burton tour and you will find it half way along, also google Mealor and sons plough makers and I'm sure you will find some more info

There is another article on this site about Mealors of Willaston which is another village next door to Neston, you may find some good information on there as well

The family still sold lawn mowers and other gardening equipment up to a couple of years back. Might still be going for all I know?
On my travels photographing war graves, I came across a lot of Mealors buried in Neston and Willaston. Very much a long association with Neston etc.
