Is it possible for any kind soul out there to translate the
words on this headstone belonging to my Gt Gt Grandparents
John and Sarah Tattum of Gwernaffield
Your help would be really appreciated
Lorrae :) :)

Not too sure about the quote in the bottom but
John Tattun
Pant Glas
who died in 9 1873
63 years old
Also Sarah his wife
She who died July ? 1887 aged 72 years
Pant Glas is probably the name of their home

The mods suggest you put Welsh translation on here
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/board,119.0.html
... but Pinot may have done it already for you !
It seems to be a Bible quote, but I can't find it ... only similar ones, not the same ...

Lorrae :)

Hello Lorrae
I don't speak welsh but I looked in my little Welsh to English dictionary for a possible match to the last word.
I think the last word might be ELW which my dictionary says means (profit) and that could translate to (benefit).
I hope this helps.

Last word "Elw" = gain.
"Christ is alive for me, and death is my gain."

I took the "HYD" before "9 1873" to be short for "HYDREF" (October")?
-
Yes that makes sense - doh - my excuse was that it was late !
