I am interested in the family of Nehemiah Rogers and Mary Goggins. The family lived in Pelham, near Hamilton in Tasmania. Nehemiah was born in Bocking, Essex, England and was transported in 1846, first to Norfolk Island then to Tasmania. His wife Mary's father was James Goggins, a transported convict from Westmeath.
I would like to make contact with any descendants of this family. I have a great deal of information to share, and would be interested in learning more about any members of the family.

Read your post this evening. Nehemiah Rogers and Mary Goggins were my husbands great, great grandparents.
We live in Victoria, Australia so it is not too difficult to travel to Tasmania. We were there about eight years ago, and went to Bothwell where we met another relative. We also went to Hamilton (Tas) where we saw the grave for Nehemiah and Mary.
I don't have a lot of information but would be interested in sharing what I have.

An 1861 Hobart Town Gazette has Nehemiah Rogers residing at Upper Queen street with the owner being James Wiggins.
An 1870 Hobart Town Gazette has Nehemiah Rogers occupying a residence on 7 1/2 acres at Hamilton Parish, Nehemiah was also the proprietor.

Hello Johngirl,
I'm a relative of yours (Descendant of Richard Kemp and Mary Deal - on my father's side), and I've not long been researching both said ancestors.
Though I've found some relative info on Richard, I'm stumped when it comes to Mary.
Pretty much all I've found is that she was Irish, her crime, OB sentencing and subsequent deportation on the Janus, then the Princess Charlotte. I have visited her grave site (and as far as I'm aware, Richard is buried in an unmarked grave next to her), but it all seems to dry up from there.
I'm just wondering if you could fill in the huge gap from there on in, and whether you have any more information on Richard and his connection to St Mary Cray, Kent.
Kind regards,
Your cousin somewhere along the line... :)
P.S. I'm new to this site as well and I didn't know how else to contact you.
