Title: MUSSELWHITE - Wiltshire
Post by: carolmking on Tuesday 10 August 10 20:38 BST (UK)
I am trying to find any information on MARY MUSSELWHITE b. 1793 in Wilton, Wiltshire daughter of JOHN MUSSELWHITE.

Would like to know further details on Mary and her father/Mother and other family members.

MARY MUSSELWHITE  married WILLIAM CURTIS at St. Mary's, Lambeth, Middlesex in 1824 and they had a daughter & 2 sons;

SELINA SARAH b.20th Nov 1826 Norwood, Surrey,

JOHN CURTIS b. 9th Jan 1829 in Norwood, Surrey,

PHILIP WILLIAM CURTIS b. 8th Jan 1831 Norwood, Surrey

All the children were baptized at ALL SAINTS, Croydon, Surrey

After the 1851 Census, I know William and Philip went to Madras, India.  Am not sure what happend to MARY, SELINA & JOHN.

If anyone has any information could you please let me know.

Thanks,
Caroline :)

Hi Caroline

I checked the parish register transcript for Wilton today and there are no MUSSELWHITE baptisms at all between 1788-1800. Nor are there any marriages 1780-1812. I also checked baps in surrounding parishes of Fugglestone, Burcombe, Bishopstone, South Newton and Stratford Tony but no luck there either.

1841 census (mistranscribed on An&^$%y as CULLIS
Brixton (Eastern Division), Lambeth, Surrey - New Bloomfield House - all born in county
William 50yrs
Mary 45yrs
Selina 14yrs
John 12yrs
Phillip 10yrs
Samuel 7yrs

1851 census All Saints, Croydon, Surrey - Biggin Farm Road
Mary CURTIS mar 58yrs Bn Wilton, Wilts
John 22yrs bn Norwood Surrey
Philip 20yrs bn Norwood Surrey
William FINMAN 26yrs Visitor

1861 census Croydon, Surrey
Mary 69yrs bn Wilts (looks like)Widow Fund Holder
Edith WEST 9yrs Visitor
John PRESTON Boarder

1871 census St Luke Lambeth Norwood - 2 Woodcote Place
 London
Mary 79yrs bn Wilton Wilts Annuitant

You can find the birth for Samuel CURTIS on Family Search pilot.

Now, if someone can just find Mary MUSSELWHITEs baptism ???

Marriage;
Selina Sarah CURTIS, June 1849, ST Geo Han Sqr, 1 32
There are several possible Grooms on the page unfortunately.
I have tried searching just with her first names on 1851 to try and match spouses without much luck ::)

There was a Mary Mussellwhite baptised at Crow Lane Independent, Wilton on 22 Jan 1792 (born 22 Sep 1791). Parents: John (carpenter) and Sarah.

Can't see any other possibilities for Wilton.

I think I have found the 1851 for Selina

She is married to John Cullums age 31, a carpenter from Basingstoke. They are living in Norwood, with their three month old daughter Frances.

Hi VAZ, TRISH, NIGEL, LILLITH & GLENCLARE,

I really want to thank you all for your help in trying to locate info on MARY MUSSELWHITE.

When I posted this, I did not even think I would get any replies.  It was just a shot in the dark really!!

LILLITH/NIGEL:   I am not sure about anything (lol), but according to the England Census 1851 Mary was listed from Wilts, Wiltshire.

GLENCLARE: Selina, I am assuming is CURTIS (Cullis) right  !!?

VAZ; I did not even know there was another child  (Samuel) - yes I did find Samuel on Family Search Pilot.  Thank you for all that info.

Yes I do hope we can find out more about MARY MUSSELLWHITE.

If I am not asking too much - how do I find out when WILLIAM, PHILIP CURTIS left England - I do know they were in Madras, India as there is Philip's marriage in Apr 1860 in Madras to MARY ANNE WILLIAMS.  So they would have left England some time after the 1851 Census and 1860 when Philip Curtis' marriage in India.  I am not sure if Samuel & John Curtis went to India.

Thank you all once again for your help.

Regards,
Caroline

Dear Caroline, you probably have the information below but here it is anyway.

William Curtis and Mary Musselwhite are ancestors on my mother's side of the family.
Their son William Philip who went to Madras married Mary Amphtell Williams.
They had six children and one of their daughters Grace Evelyn married James Albert Grant.
Their daughter Alice Claire married de Courcy Ireland Caldecourt and their daughter Cynthia Merlyn Claire is my mother who married Phillip H. White.

I have also found a marriage certificate for Sarah  Curtis (widow) and Bernard Anthony Daly 12 Dec. 1853.

Regards,
Phillip
