I am trying to find any information on WILLIAM CURTIS b. 1791, I do not know where in England he was born.
Would like to know if William had any family other than his wife and children. ???
WILLIAM CURTIS m. MARY MUSSELWHITE (D/o. JOHN MUSSELWHITE) at St. Mary's at Lambeth, Middlesex in 1824 and they had a daughter & 2 sons;
SELINA SARAH b.20th Nov 1826 Norwood, Surrey,
JOHN CURTIS b. 9th Jan 1829 in Norwood, Surrey,
PHILIP WILLIAM CURTIS b. 8th Jan 1831 Norwood, Surrey
All the children were baptized at ALL SAINTS, Croydon, Surrey
After the 1851 Census, I know William and Philip went to Madras, India. Am not sure what happend to MARY, SELINA & JOHN.
If anyone has any information could you please let me know.
:)

Ancestry have a copy of the marriage certificate - it simply states both were single and of that parish and the witnesses were a Jas. Longman Gawler and a ..(can't make out) Seager.
The banns themself won't yield any further information.

Hi
On the 1841 census William was with his family in Croydon aged 50 (adult ages on the 1841 census, those over 15 were usually rounded down to the nearest 5) a gardener born in county. His wife Mary also states born in county. The yes answer to this question on the 1841 census can be inaccurate as Mary shows on the 1851 census when she gives her place of birth as Wiltshire. William is not with the family. Mary states she is a gardener's wife.
Possibility for William on the 1851 census.

Thank you Valda & Annette7 for your replies.
How can I get any kind of certificate with information of William's parents names and where he was born.
Also I know he left England between 1834 and 1860 with Philip William Curtis and maybe also John Curtis. But for sure Philip; as Philip is listed as married in Madras, India in 1860. Where can I find the information them leaving England?
Thank you in advance.

Hi
You have Philip with his family in Croydon on the 1841 and 1851 censuses so it is unlikely he left for India before 1851. What evidence do you have that his father, a man in his 50s or 60s and a gardener went with him? In what capacity did Philip go to India? In the military or as a civilian?
Have you been able to eliminate the William Curtis in St Thomas' Hospital on the 1851 census? If not you have a good candidate for your William and therefore his age, approximate year of birth and place of birth.
