I tried rescanning and resizing as suggested, but looked very blurry when I zoomed in. I then scanned at 4800 ppi and cropped / resized to just the initials. I can't tell, if anyone can I would be grateful. Thanks. Robert

Could someone please see if they can read what the initials are on the end of the chain of the gentleman sitting in this photo, or if they are even initials? It would be a great help as I have names of ancestors without a face to put with them. It looks like "GH" but I am not sure. Any help would be appreciated, and a date of the photo would be of great value too. Thank you!

Hi Robert :)
I'm afraid the image is too small for me to make out anything at all on the chain. Could you possibly scan just that little bit of the photo, at a nice high resolution, and post again?
As for a date, the lady is wearing a beautiful example of the bustle and bodice that came into fashion in the early-mid 1880s. Absolutely gorgeous (and very uncomfortable, no doubt!)

Thank you Prue, the date really helps. How old would say they are just by looking at them?
-
Agree with Prue on the date...maybe more early than mid, still got the fussy look of the 1870s and the pleated skirt that was popular in the 70s. A fabulous photo!

Hmm, ages...not my strong point! ;D Maybe early 50s? So born around 1830?
