Title: George Pit Cottages
Post by: Dannemois on Sunday 08 August 10 21:57 BST (UK)
These three hard working lads had just finished a shift at the coalface-well at least their faces would indicate that, in actually fact they were working on the old cottages behind them.  Is it possible to make this image into a dramatic black & white whilst retaining the dust on their faces and bodies?

* Moderator comment: photo of living people - and restorations thereof - removed as discussed with Dannemois :) *

To be honest with you; I prefer black & white, there seems to be more depth but as you hinted probable depends on the subject.

Many thanks for your hard work.  Roy

Hi Gazza
My name is Roy Smith, you probably don’t know me as I left Brithdir over 50 years ago and moved down the valley to Caerphilly. I grew up in the same era as your uncle Tom and it was Tom & your aunty Jan who lent me the original photo which I copied.  I hope you don’t mind me posting it on site; the original is coloured and black & white is a more acceptable medium for reproducting.  My interest is in the old cottages and unfortunately two old relics (Tom & Lynn) got in the way-only joking, but it is a good example to demonstrate the ‘past & present’ of Brithdir.  For the past five years I have been researching everything with a connection to the village with the aim of one day writing its history.  Since then I have also collected numerous old photos of the village and Brithdir people.

Regards, Roy

There is a pic on the Brithdir Group page by Will Rogers with the old cottages and the George Pit in the background.
