I hope there is someone out there who can help me as I am now very confused with my family reseearch. My ancestor Sarah Ann Baskervill born 1772 in Bristol married a Emra Gurley (no date of birth) in 1795. I have been looking for children but with no luck. I have found a Gurley/Baskerville connection though - James Gurley Baskervill married in 1833. For a split second I thought I had cracked it but then realised the surname should be Gurley. I know children were often given the middle name that was their mothers maiden name. In that case he should be James Baskervill/Gurley. Maybe there is another marriage for Gurley/Baskervill. I would be very grateful for any help with this. Cheers. Jay

Hi
Tracking back James Gurley Baskervill's son (who married in 1863 also called James Gurley Baskervill) though censuses gives you his father age 52 on the 1861 census a brass foundry finisher born Shoreditch.
This seems a likely baptism for him mistranscribed on the IGI
JAMES QUELEY BASKERVILLE
Birth: 23 JUN 1808
Christening: 31 JUL 1808 Saint Giles Cripplegate, London
Father: WM BASKERVILLE
Mother: AMY
and his parents marriage
WILLIAM BASKERVILLE
AMEY MILLETT
Marriage: 18 OCT 1796 Saint Leonards, Shoreditch, London

Hi, I was so interested to find your post.
Sarah Ann Gurley witnessed a marriage in 1810 between Thomas Davis and Mary Perry in Westbury on Trym Gloucestershire England. They are in my family tree
The only one I could ever find was Sarah Ann Baskerville who married Emra Gurley in 1795 in Bristol, Gloucestershire. I have never been able to find any other reference to Emra online or otherwise, and wonder if you know if the forename is correct or a transcription error.
Thomas Davis and Mary Perry moved to Guernsey in the 1820s. Mary died in 1850. Thomas Davis' second marriage was in 1859 to Mary Ann Baskfill in Guernsey...coincidence? or connection?
Would love to hear what else you have found out. Its intriguing.
Val.
