:) Hi there , I'm searching for namesakes of the unusual surname De Botte ,
There are many De Bottes in Manchester , I wonder if that's a France name ,
Concretely I'm searching for information about a certain De Botte Leo who was killed in my native town Kaggevinne 24/25 June 1943 , His aircraft Short Stirling BF 501 of 218 Squadron (Heavy bomber ) was shot town ,

A general search has only come up with one birth reference which as it happens is in Manchester:-
Leo J De Botte (mother's maiden name Lavery)
3rd qtr 1918
Chorlton 8c 1159
There is also a death in 1945 for an Ethel M De Botte aged 51:-
3rd qtr 1945 Manchester 8d 88
Also a Google search gives his age in 1943 as 24 and parents at Matthew Leo De Botte and Ellen of Chorlton cum Hardy. The Chorlton on the birth reference above would be Chorlton on Medlock which is a different area in Manchester.
There is also a WW1 Medal Card for a Matthew L De Botte which records him serving in the Dublin Fusiliers (26039).
Not sure if this will help you :-\ but it might be a start.

Not sure if you know this (and apologies if you do) as I am guessing you are in France or Belgium but birth, marriage and death certificates for England and Wales can be ordered from the GRO:-

They are expensive at £9.25 each but they really are the only way of finding out more information.
I have also just checked the index on the 1911 census and there don't appear to be any De Bottes on there whatsoever:-

:) Thank you Luzzi, As you say, the certificates are very expensive and I have already made a mistake in those things. Here in Belgium can you look it in for free ( at the must places ) That ‘s why I am also more cautious with.
I have printed the clipping of Matthew , I think that is very interesting and it must be one of Leo De Botte’s family-members !
Thank you also for the Census website , I can use this for the other crewmembers of Leo too.
The pages on CWGC I’already have seen . But however thanks for your help ,
I have yet another piece of the puzzle!

Hello, My aunt, Margaret Froelich was engaged to marry Leo De Botte. He was shot down and killed 3 weeks before the wedding was to take place. They all lived at Chorlton-cum-Hardy, Manchester. Leo was a singer, I think opera and he made records that my aunt kept all of her life. I have a photo of my mother's wedding with Leo in it if you would like it

Leo was baptised privately, at home - 'Privatim, domi', by Joanne Foster. For anyone who is not aware of this, anyone can carry out an 'emergency' baptism if the child is feared to be in danger of death. This was the day after his birth. After his recovery, he was taken to church for the baptism ceremonies to be completed on 11th August. It is interesting that the priest has recorded the name of the woman who performed the original baptism, as well as his own, H. J. Roche. Could she be related to one of the parents ?

He was my fathers cousin and I would very much like to see a picture of him. We have visited his grave a couple of times at the cemetery in Kaggevine.
