To see if they were related you'd need to check Ellen's parentage and work back.

I have two sisters who married two Smith gentlemen and after much digging I found there was no connection at all!

On the other hand I do have several instances of brothers marrying sisters etc and I also have a gt gt aunt Emily who married a John Evans (can't get much commoner than that!).  Emily's niece, Alice, married a Frank Evans and I discovered Frank was John's son by his first marriage.  It all got extremely cosy when I found John and his first wife and family, and then Emily, living at the same address for over 20 years - next door to Emily's brother (another) John, who was my gt grandfather!

Another couple, from my husband's side of the family:

His gt x 3 grandfather John was widowed and married 2nd wife Letitia.  Letitia's niece married John's son William.  So Letitia's niece was also her stepdaughter!

Even more confusing, way back at the end of 18th century-
4 daughters:
Eve Sellers
Sarah Matilda Sellers
Matilda Sellers
Amelia Sellers

Eve married Charles Ehn and Sarah Matilda married his brother William Ehn.
Amelia Sellers married William Holmstead Marsden.
Matilda married  HIS brother Lewis Cottingham Marsden and Amelia Marsden and Charles Ehn were witnesses.

All clear so far?

Then William Holmstead Marsden and Eve Ehn {what a name!} both died.  Charles Ehn and Amelia Marsden then married eachother.

I think they must have moved in very small circles!
Then Amelia

Hi Janeyanne,

William and his second wife Mary Burke were my great-great-grandparents.  I'm not related to Ellen, and I have been unable to trace Mary Anne Brown, so I can't help with your question, but good to know that I have another cousin out there!

Best wishes.
