Trying to trace Noble Clinton and his decendants. Noble Clinton was born in 1875 to James Noble (Charles)Clinton and Martha Jane (Toner)? , Noble was born in Gundagai NSW. I believe he had a son William D Clinton. James Clinton was the brother of my Grt Grandfather Arthur Peter Clinton. James arrived in Melborne Australia in 1857 with his wife Margaret. taking part I believe in the Gold Rush at Bellarat. Margaret died in 1864 and James married to Martha Jane (Toner)? They moved to Gundagai where 3 children were born Clara 1874, Noble in 1875 and Regina S M in 1878. James died in 1879.
Trying to locate and decendants.

Hi Geoff
Did Noble CLINTON have a second christian name ?
This death in New Zealand looks a possibility.
1958 - CLINTON - Noble Desmond - 82 years (bc 1876)

Noble was born in Gundagai NSW. I believe he had a son William D Clinton.

Good find Lucy2. :D
Geoff, I don't know if you have this, but Martha's maiden (or possibly widowed) surname was LANHAM (and variations!)
Births in Victoria
Margaret Clinton
Mother: Martha Lanham
Father: James Clinton
Birth: 1866 - Byong, Victoria
Married 1892 Vic to Lewis William GOUGH, and died 1956 at Mount Albert, Victoria.
Arthur James Clinton
Mother: Martha Lenhem
Father: Arthur James Clinton

Blanche Clinton

Father: James Clinton
Birth: 1870 - Eldorado, Victoria

Her death notice is here http://trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/article/17841116?searchTerm=clinton%20wollongong
Details in this death notice tie them all together. Regina (born in NSW) married William R. PREECE in 1902 and is mentioned in Blanche's death notice, along with Arthur and William.
William Stephen Martin Clinton
Mother: Martha Lanham
Father: James Clinton
Birth: 1872 - Eldorado, Victoria

I can't see a marriage for James and Martha in Victoria, but perhaps someone else can have a search.

Sadly, only three of Noble and Ellen's children, made it to adulthood.
Also have found some spelling variations in names of children -- have noted these below.
NZ Births (to today's date 1910)
1898 - Verbina* Ellen CLINTON - This child was actually "Rubina Ellen" ... "Verbina is an error on the Birth Index.
1900 - Noble Desmond CLINTON
1903 - Desmond CLINTON - died 1908 - aged 5 years
1905 - Derris* Harry CLINTON - spelling is "Derrice" according to NZ Marriage and Death indexes.
1907 - Joseph Henry CLINTON - died 1908 - aged 9 months
Parents: Ellen Matilda and Noble Desmond

NZ Marriage
Rubina Ellen CLINTON - Arthur Hartley DAWSON - 1920
NZ Death
1984 - DAWSON - Rubina Ellen - d.o.b. 10 September 1898*
[Have checked the listing for "Verbina Ellen CLINTON - 1898" as shown on NZ Birth Index, and date of birth 10 September 1898 matches that of Rubina Ellen DAWSON. ]
Rubina and husband Arthur Hartley DAWSON have cremation records at the following link (Whangarei District Council site.)

Hi Geoff
Haven't yet checked to see if others are researching this NZ branch of the CLINTON family.
Rubina Ellen DAWSON was the last of the family to pass away - in 1994. In the event there are no other researchers, then you might like to contact the funeral director whose name is noted on her cremation record. They may be able to supply you with details of next of kin.

Added: Can't see a website for funeral director - however if you Google "Newberrys Funeral + Whangarei NZ" you'll find an email address for them.

The William who died 1964 and buried at Portland is William Stephen Martin CLINTON, brother of Blanch and son of James and Martha. Archibald James is his son, born in New Zealand, 1909. http://www.ww2roll.gov.au/script/veteran.asp?ServiceID=A&VeteranID=396406

My Great Grandmother Ellen Elizabeth Lanham born 1855 was the sister of Martha Jane Lanham who married James Clinton. I have done quite a bit of research on both the Lanham and Leviston families. Have a photo which has Ellen and her sister Martha written on it. YA

HI...I am just new here...however.....DESMOND A DAWSON...Northland New Zealand.....is my Uncle...his parents .....Rubina Ellen CLINTON - Arthur Hartley DAWSON - 1920...he also had one Sister ...I can ask him if he wants you to get in touch with him.....he 89years old and doing very well and is a mine of information..however he does not have a computer so it would have to be the old fashioned way...by phone or letter...best regards Dianne

Hi
Thanks for the contact sorry for the delay in replying but I have been away on extended vacation. If Desmond A Dawson is interested then I would like to send him a letter. What I and a number of other researchers into the Clinton Family are interested in is the father of James Noble Clinton who died in 1837. His name was Arthur Clinton and we are all trying to find out where he was born. Family folk lore has him comming from Ireland but despite many searches no trace has been found. I was hoping that a family bible or similar record might exist in either Australia or New Zealand. Any help would be most welcome
