I am researching the Wesson family of Earith, at the moment back to John Wesson born 1817 in Earith and his wife Phoebe born 1820 in Willingham, they had a family of six children all born in Earith can any one tell me please the name of the churches in either town, and would it be possible to get marriage certs through them as they probably are in the parish records. Any help at all would be much appreciated , Regards Liverbirds

The parish registers for Bluntisham cum Earith are now held by Huntingdon Record Office - see http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/HUN/#E - whilst those for Willingham which was in the old Cambridgeshire are in Cambridge Record Office. Both have been filmed by the LDS so could be viewed and a copy taken at your nearest LDS Family History Centre. Alternatively you could ask the two record offices to locate and copy the appropriate pages that you seek, but they would charge for this.
But as the marriage may have been after 1837 given the birth dates you quote you could order the certificate direct from the GRO - this can be done online for £7. Do you know the date of the marriage?
Hope this helps

Dear David, thank you for the advice, and input. I don't have any marriage date for this couple, I believe they are my gt, gt grandparents, I will check out the routes you have suggested, I should be able to come up with something. cheers for now Liverbirds

Hi
From the Hunts Marriage Index, John Wesson married Phoebe Wheaton at Somersham in 1828. Doesn't match your birth dates though.

Willingham parish register is on the IGI as a controlled extract, so is pretty reliable. There is only one Phoebe christened 1819/20 in Willingham - Phoebe Gadsby christened 7 Feb 1820, twin daughter of William and Mary (her twin was Rebecca - per the Cambs FHS baptism index http://www.cfhs.org.uk/Search.html). Whilst it is pure supposition, this may be the Phoebe who married John Wesson, but on the other hand it might be a complete red herring!
Judging by the ages of the children in the 1861 census - per your earlier thread - they could have married 1847-49. A search of the GRO indexes at your local LDS or main library might therefore show their marriage entry. I can't see anything on FreeBMD, but their marriage transcription rate for 1848/9 varies between 30-95% and has hardly been started for 1847, so the marriage might not have been transcribed yet.
I've had a look at the 1871 entry for Phoebe and I think her age is probably 51 rather than 57 (the figure is bad, but looks more like the enumerator's 1 rather than his 7), which would be consistent with 1841/61/81.
I think the marriage that Mike has found is the other John and Phoebe Wesson who were living in Cambridge in 1841 and 1851 and who were both born in Somersham.
Hope this helps

Dear David and Mikey, thank you both very much for all the extra help you have given me over John and Phoebe Wesson's marriage. certainly lots of avenues to explore. I noticed that on the census of 1871 Phoebe was 57 yrs and on the 1861 she is shown as 41yrs, so I agree that the age difference is as you say probably down to the enumerators writing.
Just a curiosity on my part but how do you manage to obtain so much info so quick, do you have all this on c.d's or are you just brilliant with all the sites, if it is c.d's how can they be purchased? as I am almost a novice I find it very impressive, still cant thank you enough. Regards Liverbirds
