Hi Everyone,
I am starting my family tree on my Grandfathers side today , & have Census information from England 1871 to start .
So this would be my GGGF . His name was John Dwyer born around 1842 in Dublin. His wifes name was Mary Redmond
My Aunt , says she can remember a wooden policemans whistle from the time that our ancestors were in Dublin .
Can anyone recommend or suggest how I could find any information on this connection?

Both John and Mary were born before the start of Full Civil Registration (1864) so you will need to research parish records - see : Introduction to Irish Records (http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,442233.0.html) Do you know what religion they were or what part of Dublin (i.e. city or county) they came from?
Do you have a marriage cert for John and Mary ?
Since they have quite common names this would help confirm or rule out any baptisms you find.
Many RC and CofI baptisms for the City area are available on http://www.irishgenealogy.ie/

A civil marriage record for the details obbie located would give you occupations for groom and both father's which might throw some light on the whistle story..

I too have been working on my familty tree on my mother's side. John Dwyer/Mary Redmond would be my GG Grandparents. My G Grandmother was Mary Catherine Dwyer married to Thomas Whittingham (Liverpool). I have found John Dwyer/Mary Redmond's Marriage information. John Dwyer, born 1841 (Ireland). Mary Redmond, born 1844 (Ireland). Married 07 Feb 1864, St Marys-Sandymount, Dublin, Ireland. It lists Edward Dwyer as John's Father and James Redmond as Mary's Father. Also, the record shows Witnesses for the wedding as Andrew Redmond and Catherine MCCabe. Catherine McCabe is also a Redmond. I found her Marriage to a James McCabe and James Redmond is listed as her father with John Dwyer listed as a witness. They were married on 17 December 1863 at St Mary, Haddington Road, Dublin.
It would be appreciated if you would happen to have any other information to add, especially from Ireland. My Mom and I have records and information once John Dwyer/Mary Redmond arrived in Liverpool and then forward. Mom will be 83 this year and has some good memories and knowledge of her family.

Hello wise1.
My mother's birth name is Whittingham. Her father was John Whittingham, son of Mary Catherine Dwyer/Thomas Whittingham. All of them at one time lived on Prince William Street, Toxteth. I have acquired a lot of information pertaining to the Dwyer family from the UK Census's off of Ancestry.
Yes, I have seen the curious fox post. My mother posted that post in 2004.
I will PM you after my 3rd posting.

Hi Andrew,
My mother's name was Eileen Whittingham, she married my Dad (an American) and moved to the U.S. after their marriage at St. Patrick's in Dec 1953. I was born here in the U.S., but have been to the Pool several times, which I love. It will be interesting to see what info we can share concerning the Dwyer side of the family. We may have some duplicate info, but you never know.....
Take Care for Now,
Anita
