Title: The Burgesses of Inveraray

 Hi Argyll Roots Chatters,
                                       I have obtained a copy of the Scottish Record Society `s book - " the Burgesses of Inveraray  1665 - 1963 ".
                                       The burgesses and freemen  are listed chronologically and alphabetically. Not much other detail is given but in many cases, the occupation of the person is given.
                                       I would be happy to look up names for anyone trying to confirm an ancestor`s connection to the Royal Burgh of Inveraray 1665 - 1963.

Hi Thommoje,

Would you mind looking for any McCullochs in the above book who may have been Burgesses between 1635-1790.
In particular John, James, Patrick and William.

 I see a couple of entries -
                                1 .  Mc Callach   Patrick in Belfast   March 1738


                                2 . McCulloch  James , son to John Mc Culloch , merchant in Larne      11 April 1727

                                 I thought  entry 1 was a possible spelling variation and could be your  Patrick.
                                  Not sure of the whereabouts of Belfast or Larne.
                                  That is all the info - hope it is some help

 Hi Greenfarmer,
                         It would seem both Belfast and Larne are the obvious ones in Nth Ireland. Larne being on the east coast of NthIreland north of Carrickfergus and Belfast nearby, of course.
                          These places are just across the water from Scotland , so I figure you are looking at an Irish connection.

There could be a link between them.
The James McCulloch I'm after was born in 1709, whether he would be too young to be a burgess in 1727 ? He went on to become a Presbyterian minister in Moneyrea Antrim (licensed 1734 Templepatrick) and ended his days as minister of Kirkcolm Scotland.
He did have a brother Patrick a merchant of Larne, and their father was John McCulloch of Cairncastle, Antrim (a few miles from Larne) who was somehow descended from the McCullochs of Myrtoun.

I realise that this is a pretty ancient post, but hey...

I'm looking for the family of four brothers, born in the area of Inveraray roughly 1808-1816 and named John, Hugh, Neil and Archibald McIntyre. I realise that unfortunately there are thousands of McIntyres in Argyll and that these are common names. John went to medical school in Glasgow, so I am guessing that his family probably weren't labourers. All four brothers subsequently went out to Canada, where they variously became a minister, an insurance agent and a shoemaker. About the fourth I only know that he worked in London before going out to join his brothers. I would be most grateful if you could identify any likely father.
