Researching the TAYLOR family, miners of New and Old Monkland, Lanarkshire, back in the 1830s.
William (c1812, Glasson) married Elizabeth GILLESPIE (c1815, Musselburgh) and had five children. Their eldest, Daniel (c1835 New Monkland) married Isabella WALKER (c1843 Coatbridge) and had eleven children. Their second, James (c1864, Armadale; d 1898 Marseilles, France), became a well-to-do grocer at Wishaw, married Margaret DRYDEN (1865, Lochmaben) and had seven children.
Does anyone else connect to this family? Or have access to the Glasson parish registers that I might trace William's origins?

Glasson is, as far as I know, somewhere in the north of England. Could your William have been born in Glasgow?
according to the 1851 census index for the parish of Shotts in Lanarkshire, there are (listed together, so within the same household) William Taylor aged 39 years, born Glasgow, and Daniel Taylor aged 17 years born Monklands.
Looks as if they could be father and son. No other Daniel listed in all of Lanarkshire with the right age. They could have moved to the Lothians by this time though.

Hi. I have a Margaret M Taylor born 31st December 1852 in Old Monkland, Lanarkshire, Scotland that may be related to your Taylor's. Margaret M Taylor married Peter Downie in Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland on 31st October 1873.
You mention that William Taylor and Elizabeth Gillespie had five children... could Margaret M Taylor be one of their children?
