Hi there,
I'm from Australia, and I'm trying to find some information on my ancestors.
This is pretty much what I have so far..
My ancestor, Erudua (Emma) Auguste Traeger was born in Hallets Valley, South Australia.
Her father, Frederick William Traeger was born approx 1836 in Germany. I have found this date through the South Australian Biographical Index (SABI) and from the original shipping records, stating he was 20 when the ship departed from Hamburg. However, I'm getting confused as accourding to the SABI he was born in Schawig, Germany, but on the shipping information it lists them as from Weigelsdorff in Preussen.
I believe that Frederick's parents were Ernest Wilhelm and Johanna Dorothea as they are listed on the ticket with Frederick and his brothers and sisters (age looks right for that relationship), but I don't know where to start looking for any birth, death or marraige certificates for the family. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
thanks!

Hallo Ash,
reading your post, yould you mean "Schwaig" instead of "Schawig"?
On the family search site, he is given as being born in Schewig!
Haven't found villages/towns with those spellings - only people.
I have found some towns with the village Schwaig integrated, and the other town of Weigelsdorff I have found to be in Lower Austria.
Any other bits of information available?

Hey Viv,
thanks for replying. Yes, I meant Schwaig, sorry my German place name spelling isn't that wonderful... is Shcwaig any different to the Schweig on his family search record. I did notice that difference when I first did the search, but as there was no place name with the 'e' spelling, I assumed it was an error when recorded.
I believe that Freidrick came to australia aboard the AUGUST in 1856 with his family I have had the original shipping record transcribed for me and it reads as follows: (note, I am unsure if the two families below are related, as they did not purchase tickets together and the place name spelling is diffrent, but I thought it may be helpful)
141 Carl Wilh: a Zimmermann aged 42 - Weigelsdorf
142 Maria Doroth: aged 40 - Weigelsdorf
143 Franz Carl aged 10 - Weigelsdorf
144 Eduard Robert Aged 8 - Weigelsdorf
145 Eduard aged 2 - Weigelsdorf
149 Ernst Wilh: a Landmann aged 51 - Weigelsdorff
150 Joh: Dorothea aged 49 - Weigelsdorff
151 Ernst Gottlieb a Landmann aged 28 - Weigelsdorff
152 Friedr: Wilh: a Landmann aged 20 -Weigelsdorff
153 Joh: Eleonore aged 17 - Weigelsdorff
154 Joh: Caroline aged 14 - Weigelsdorff
155 August Ferd: aged 6 - Weigelsdorff
156 Joh: Gottfr a Zimmermann Aged 54 - Weigelsdorff
157 Johanna Helene aged 45 - Weigelsdorff
158 Joh: Wilhelm a Landmann aged 21 -Weigelsdorff
159 Louise aged 19 - Weigelsdorff
160 Caroline aged 17 - Weigelsdorff
161 Dorothea aged 10 - Weigelsdorff
Other than that I do not have a lot... no births, no deaths... from an ancestry member connect hint, i do have a possible dob of 1805 for Ernst and 1807 for Johanna, but again I am unsure.
Any ideas you could give would be much appreciated.

Hello,
Please can anyone help me. My Gr.Grandfather was born in Preussen in 1854. His name was John Starkey as was his father (according to his marriage certificate ) Both were shoe/bootmakers. I do not know when my gr grandfather came to the UK or where he came to. He married in 1877 in Claines, Worcestershire to Sophia Brown. I would like confirmation of his birth and then hopefully, get some information on his family/siblings.
What do I do to find anything, I am at a standstill with him.

thank you Viv.. I really appreciate it :)

Hi Kark,
It would be better if you start a new topic with your queries, so that we don't get muddled up with people's ancestors. That way we know who belongs to whom.
Regards,
