Hi there,
I am trying to find out for my husband a relative a Willhelm Kolln and wife Hannah Eugene Lane came to N.S.W. from germany would probably be after 1861. Willhelms parents were Mathias Kolln and Katherine Groth, they were married in Liverpool N.S.W. Hannah Eugene Lane was born in London 1861 her parents were William Lane and Mary Coplan . Willhelm was born in Holstein in Germany in 1840. We only know that there was a second youngest child of Willhelm and Hannah with the name of John Kolln.
Perhaps if I could get the passenger list fro them would be good, but unfortunately dont know the ship or the dates when they would have sailed to N.S.W.
Would appreciate very much if someone could help me with this inquiry thanks.
Barbara.

Hi Barbara :)
You could start by searching the indexes at NSW State Records:
http://www.records.nsw.gov.au/state-archives/indexes-online/indexes-online#immigration
Records are better for Assisted Immigrants than for ones who paid their own way, so if you're lucky they came out on an immigration scheme of some sort and there will be paperwork for them (if it's survived).
Would they have come from Germany or from England, do you think (Hannah being English)?
Cheers
Prue
P.S. Did you mean Hannah was born in 1841?

HI PrueM,
Thanks for your reply, Hannah Eugene lane was born in London in 1861.I looked on the indexes N.S.w. state Records but found nothing. William Lane and Mary coplan were her parents, and would have come from London I expect. We know willhelm was born Holstein germany though.
Is there no Bmd's for germany?? do you know.

Hello fshy,
looks like my g grandparents
Hannah Lane was born (12 Jan 1860, Great Cheverell) to a Sarah Ann Lane (father not listed) and registered Lavington, Devizes.
She is on the 1861 & 1871 census as a scholar, with g/father Robert lane, widower. I think she came to Aust on "Gulf of Venice' arriving 6/2/1885 and married soon after and had 5 children at Canley vale (Liverpool in Sydney)
A william Lane is on 1851 census and probably is her uncle. He probably came to Australia seperately and probably lived at Canley vale. She stated he was her father on documents. He married a Mary Copling (father Thomas, dec'd) on 29 Jun 1858, residence Lambeth Walk and signed his certificate as William Lane Jnr. His father is William Lane, profession, Turner.
There is additional info sources with a William Lane in the Canley vale area (Sands directory, parliamentary petitions for Local govt ) in this period, and Trove has personal notices of Hannah Kolln death and her brother and sisters' married names inviting friends to her funeral. She died 18 AUG 1928.
Wilhelm Kolln married her on 28 Mar 1885. He arrived in Aust 8 May 1864 from London (I cannot locate named ship "Phelicia" arriving in melbourne as listed on his form for Naturalizaton) and travelled around until he settled in Canley Vale and was a fruitgrower. he buried his brother Matthias in 1909. same parents listed, katherine Groth & Mathias.
Wihelm took Aust citizenship on 21 May 1904, and died 1925
The Kolln in germnay (pre 1864) is unknown to me and would appreciate any info you have.
Also the Lane line with Hannah in it if you have better details. Pls contact by email.
