I must be doing something wrong because I can't find the death of Thomas COURTENAY/COURTNEY before 1915 in SA. The Bisa mentions he died 1878 in SA.
I also can't find any marriages for the surviving sons in SA with the father as Thomas.
They may have remained single and died after 1915 - I don't have the death records 1916-1972 for SA or any interstate records.
Hope someone else can double check for Julie.

Hi
The dates given in records appear to be at odds ???
BISA has Thomas born c1816 which corresponds with being aged 36 in 1852 and the death date of 1878 means he was about 62 when he died.
This death record has Thomas aged 63 but . . . . he died after Alice?
Thomas COURTENAY aged 63 of Adelaide
d: 20.08.1891 in hospital in Adelaide
No relative recorded

Yes I see what you mean about the dates Essie ??? will work with that for the time being. Four of Alice's brothers (William, Abel, Frances, and Samuel)came to New Zealand to perhaps that is where the Courtenay boys ended up.
Many thanks to you both for your help, very much appreciated. I have a few more queries on this family but will do them in a separate post :)
cheers
