Would you check the William who is 39?

Please and Thankyou, I'm really clutching at straws here.

Few more sisters than I want!

There was a Sissy however!
(Clarice?)
Perhaps some died young.

Would Preston and Penworth be considered Liverpool?

(I am in Canada although from Wirral)

Hi Hilary:

The 1901 census was taken March 31.  If your relation was born in April 1901 she would not have been there.  Perhaps this is the family that you are looking for:

1901 England Census
RG13/3490
3 Bradfield Street
West Derby  Lancashire

William Foley abt 1862   Born Preston, Lancashire, England Head, an Electrician
Hannah C Foley abt 1865  Born Preston, Lancashire, England Wife
Clarice E Foley abt 1887  Born Liverpool, Lancashire, England Daughter
Leslie G Foley abt 1890  Born Preston, Lancashire, England Daughter
Lillian D Foley abt 1896  Born Penwortham; Preston, Lancashire, England Daughter

thanks redfern, I realized that she would not have been there then, but I know  her fathers name was William, she had sisters Margaret, Florence Katherine and Sissy(?) I dont know if they were older or younger, just that they were all born in Liverpool.  So..I'm looking for possibilities.

The family you quote might have been them, loosing a few sisters along the way...

Please and thankyou

Do you have a better access to the census than getting vouchers etc?

Margaret ( the wife) seems very young, and I found a promising marriage in 1885 she would have been 11!  Could you check the 1891 census and see if her age is consistent

Hi Hilary:

Probably a 1901 misrecording.  The 1891 census follows:

1891 Census
Liverpool
270 Vauxhall Rd
Scotland Ward, SE Martin
RG12/2902

William Foley, Head, age 24 Sugar House Laborer, born Wexford, Ireland
Margaret Foley, wife, age 22, born Wexford, Ireland
Mary Foley, daughter, age 3 born Liverpool
Margaret Foley, daughter, age 1, born Liverpool

Is hilaryanne still looking for the Foley family? I think we may both be part of the same family, or at least the same quest.

Hi yes I am part of that family. Florence Foley was my maternal grand mother although I never knew her. she was the youngest of thirteen, but only five survived infancy. Her mother was Margaret Foley Nee Connor, father was William(sugar refiners labourer), they married in 1885.Their children:
Mary b1888 known as cissy. She died in the May Blitz in Bootle in 1941, she was married then (Mary Sinclair), her death is commemorated in the role of honour at the Commonwealth War Grave Commission. She had a son William.
Margaret b 1890, she married John Carroll and lived in Litherland and owned a sweets and tobacconist shop. no children.
Catherine, (or Katie) b1895 married Ted Burns and lived in Anfield, Liverpool. she had 4 children, Edward;John;Gerald;Joan.
Elizabeth, (Lizzie) b1902 married James Byrne in 1924 and lived on the Wirral. They had 8 children, Margaret;Tommy'Alec'Geoffrey;Elizabeth;Paul;Roger and Maria.
Florence b 1905 married John Bracken in 1930. She died in 1951, a pulmonary thrombosis I think. She had had TB during her life and was never really in good health. She had 4 children, Sheila(my mum),maureen, john and david.
Margaret Connor was from Co Wexford, Ireland. William Foley was from Wexford too. William's father was named John, as was Margarets. I hope this helps your quest.  I'd be very interested to know where you fit in and to find out if you have any missing pieces of the story.  Regards
