Looking for any members of the Loquet family from Belgium
The only two names I remember being mentioned were Oscarine and Hilare
Of course I understand that during the WWII that a lot of records were lost.

If you want to look for other people researching the same name, try http://www.geneanet.org/
There are a lot of listings for this surname in both France and Belgium. It would help if you knew the area/town in Belgium you were looking at.

The only thing I know is that my father in law's family came from the Walloon area of Belgium which I believe is the flatest area there. Is that right. They speak a mix of French/German? or is that flemish. I have no idea and neither does my husband where his family origins were in Belgium. Very skimpy ??? ::)
He says that he wishes he had paid more attention to his dad when he did tell him anything which was rare. Is there any way I can find out which areas of Belgium were walloon, to give a clue as to towns, cities, villages etc.

Here's a map showing (roughly) the area you are talking about but like most research you'll probably need a more exact location before you can start finding any records.

From your other messages, your link is via Albert Victor Loquet who married Iris Doreen Brown?
I can see his birth in 1920 (Weymouth) and his parents (Emile A Loquet and Lily B Marks, she b. Weymouth I think) marriage in 1916 on freebmd.
He was almost certainly a refugee from WWI and given the area of their marriage probably one of the "Birtley Belgians"

Yes, she was a nurse in Weymouth and he was shipped in wounded and they fell in love. He originally was a farmer. They married in Durham I think there is also someone called Joseph Loquet seemed as though they married at the same place same time. When the war was over they moved back to Belgium where Albert was born and escaped to england just as WWII broke out and stayed with relatives Albert was an engineer and was given a job with Vospers and in charge of the workforce at the tender age of 20 building aircraft for the war effort. This is when he met Iris and history repeats itself. When working together he called her miss Brown and she called him Mr. Loquet but they were secretly married by the time she was about 21yrs old.

Well, it looks like Albert V was definitely born in England (in Weymouth, see freebmd), but they may have left soon after that.
Do you have the marriage certificate of Emile and Lily from 1916? That should tell you Emile's father's name (and maybe show if Joseph Loquet was a witness, although I can see only one Joseph Loquet and he married down in Kent, not in Durham).
The problem is that you will not find ship lists for within Europe and it doesn't appear that there are naturalisation records for this family that I can find (probably Emile didn't; don't think Albert would have needed to). You might try tracking down Emile's death and seeing if there's any reference in a death notice/obituary to family in Belgium, and possibly Albert's as well (might for example mention something about his life pre WWII).

the loquet family came from belgium to my knowledge, but a lot of the records were lost during the 2nd ww. due to bombing etc. I am now trying to find out more about this family as we only have info going back to barry's grandfather and his wife winifred franks? his name being emile victor loquet phonetically pronounced (lokay)they were lock and key makers or door-latch makers. we were told that originally the name possibly moved from holland.can anyone help with research.
be most grateful.

The Dutch website WieWasWie (https://www.wiewaswie.nl/en/home) has 32 documents with Loquet in them.
Mainly in the Province of Zuid-Holland (South Holland - which is the province of Rotterdam and The Hague).
Was Emile born 17th January 1920?
If so he was born in Antwerp, but ws on the population register for The Hague in 1939 (in Dutch Den Haag or 's-Gravenhage)
-
no, his father albert was born 1920 but emile, alberts' father would have been born in th1800s' in belgium their ancestors may have originated in holland though never corroborated. though barry says that the emile that you found may well have been a cousin a distant relative if there were a branch still living in holland so that may be of interest. emile borne in belgium was wounded in flanders and brought by ship to england where he was hospitalised in weymouth, and there he met winifred who was a nurse and whom he eventually married going up to durham for some reason fo a registry marriage. they had barrys'; father moved back to belgium, only to have to make their escape at the start of w.w.11 they settled in ferndown. until emile died.

- here is a 1914 reference of wounded Belgian soldiers which lists an Emile Loquet of Bauffe, Lens (in Hainaut)

- this listing in the 'golden book' (does not cover all soldiers, but Belgian veterans of WWI who were still living could apply), page 369, 1937-8, lists also a Emile A. Loquet of Monceau s/Sambre - with a picture, perhaps you or your family will recognise him?

I think the Bauffe record is right - there's an Emile of the right age born there. If the father's name on his English marriage certificate lines up we'd be gold:
Bauffe is now part of Lens but was its own commune in 1887, when an Emile Albert Loquet was born there:
http://www.rootschat.com/links/01jmd/
(acte 13)
In summary, on 5th September 1887, Victor Loquet, aged 45, a labourer, registered the birth of a male infant born 4th September, half past eight in the evening, to himself and his wife, Philomene Virginie Vasseur, aged 32, who was given the first names Emile Albert.
Oscar Paras and Leopold Dupont were the witnesses, and signed, the father of the child having declared that he was unable to read or write.
Marriage index shows that this couple married in 1875, and you can see that here:
http://www.rootschat.com/links/01jmn/
In addition to Emile there were
1874 Oscar http://www.rootschat.com/links/01jme/ (some of document on previous page - born prior to marriage but marginal note indicates he was Victor's son and legitimised at marriage)
1877 Melanie Angelique http://www.rootschat.com/links/01jmf/
1879 Pierre Phillipe http://www.rootschat.com/links/01jmg/ died 1882 http://www.rootschat.com/links/01jmq/
1883 Adolph http://www.rootschat.com/links/01jmh/ (top left, some detail on previous page)
1885 Marie http://www.rootschat.com/links/01jmi/ (bottom right, some detail on following page)
1890 Francois Joseph http://www.rootschat.com/links/01jmj/ died 1891 http://www.rootschat.com/links/01jmp/
1892 an unnamed male infant (death record only) http://www.rootschat.com/links/01jmo/
1895 Jules Francois http://www.rootschat.com/links/01jml/
1899 Josephine Mathilde http://www.rootschat.com/links/01jmm/

1904 birth of Fernand Adolphe, illegitimate child of Marie

Hello,
I just came across your research by chance. I'm a descendant of Mélanie Loquet who was the sister of Émile Albert. Hilaire Gondry was my great uncle and his wife was named Oscarine. Mélanie Loquet and Adémard Gondry from Cuesmes had several children: my great-grandmother Louise, Hilaire, Alexis, Léona and Flore.

I should have said that the family were farmers and locksmiths and when he went up upto durham we think Jacob who we think was his brother stood in as bestman after the marriage they returned to Belgium but lily was pregnant when the 2nd ww started so they got themselves out of there and came to england where Albert was born, he could not fight because he suffered from colour blindness; but he was a draughtsman and an engineer, he designed the choc/tow bar for the spitfires to be towed out onto the runway before taking off and the carriage for the bombs for the hurricanes to be taken up inside the bodies of the hurricane and was involved with the light seaplanes and manufacture of the parts that the germans were informed were tractor parts that were being shipped out to malta which in fact were aircraft replacement parts but did they know it so we could come up behind them.
but in barrys family as in mine we both have browns mine were from scotland his were in portsmouth but when I was about four years old i and my mum went to stay with a lady my grandad said was his cousin her name was violet brown, her husband was stationed at Hasler so this would have been1957 I was born in 53 he was in the naval military police and they had an alsation called kigi I fell down the stairs he came to check me over allowed me to place my arms around his neck and took me into the kitchen crying my eyes out and placed me gently on the kitchen floor, not sure but Agnes may have been her mother's name what I would love to trace is the connection, if there is one between the two brown families my great gran was a brown her father was robert brown she was marjory and she had agnes and lily were her daughters and one but she and they are usually named after family members.
this lady my grandad's cousin was violet whether she married a brown or was a brown herself I do not know nor how to find out now that Hasler has been closed and everything moved to portsmouth naval basesince 1968 i dont know who to ask any ideas or help would be appreciated.
