My son is eight tomorrow and very excited, just taking a break from baking the cake and buns!
It would have been my Dad`s birthday tomorrow also.
My eldest son is born 2 days before my husband`s granny and one day after his brother.
How many duplicate days are there in your tree ie 2 members of the family born on the same day? Were any of your ancestors born on your birthday?

My brother and I were born on the same date (14th May), one year apart, me in 1958, he in 1959.
Our cousin was born in 1960, only five days later on 19th May.
In that five day period - 14th to 19th May - we also have a gt grandmother, an aunt, and another cousin with birthdays.
On a more sombre note, since 1985 we have had three close family members die in the same five day period of September, with an interval of twelve years between each death. Spooky.

I was born on my parents 3rd wedding anniversary March 24th, I always use to tease my dad and say what a good anniversary present I was.... Aslo when I was 9 my dad's sister was married on the same day and I was a bridesmaid so at the reception we had a wedding cake and a birthday cake...
cheers

My nephew's partner's birthday is the 13th June. Their eldest son was born the 13th May 2002, the next on the 13th April 2006 and the youngest on the 13th March 2010.

Hi Sarah,
I was born on my mother's birthday 30th May 1964, an unwrapped present you might say ::) Mum was born 30th May 1931, we were both very close and more like sisters or best friends than mother and daughter! Makes us the twins - Gemini!
And yes i've since found a few more ancestors mainly on my mother's side with the same birthday - 30th May.
Elaine. :)

Strange isn`t it but what better birthday present than a child?
I suppose i should add that my husband was born 25th march, his youngest brother 17th of march, his middle brother and aunt 26th march.
His sister and parents have birthdays in july.
My sister and i have birthdays within 2 days of each other in november and my nephews birthdays within 2 days of each other in october.
Have a good weekend all

Made me chuckle that did!
My youngest daughter was due on the 13th same day as my Hubby, she was born on the 15th same day as my Hubby's nephew, Sam, her cousin.
Sam died on the 3rd aged 3 from meningitis and his older brother was born on the 3rd.
My uncle died on the 3rd anniversary of Sam's death.
My second child miscarried on the anniversary of my grandfathers death, my third child miscarried on the birthday of Sam and my 4th child miscarried 3 days before the 5th anniversary of his death.

Not birthdays but Valentine's Day in the past three years went as follows:
Year 1 my aunt's funeral
Year 2 my friend's wedding
Year 3 my godson's christening.
Can't wait to see what we have next year ;D

I love date coincidences :)
On my eldest daughters 16th birthday 26 May, it would have been her Great Great Uncles 100 th birthday.
Mine is 29th March and my sister (technically she is a half sister) is the 30th I say I was her 21st birthday present!
My Uncle was born on his Dads birthday, I think that would be a nice surprise :)
-
My maternal grandmother's youngest child, and only son, was born on her birthday. I've always thought that must have been pretty special for her. He was like her, too, in looks and personality.

13 is the lucky number in our family.. myself and my brother born that date (different months), his eldest daughter has the same birthday as him, and his mother-in-law also has the same birthday.
His youngest daughter was born on their wedding anniversary.

Here is food for thought: Given the number of people currently living, there are approximately 18,000,000 other people on the planet who share your birthday. That would make one helluva party. I use this fact to throw cold water on people who annoy me with what their daily horoscope says. It doesn't take many people in a room to make it very likely that at least two have the same birthday.
Of my 6 siblings and myself, 5 dates are Mar 30, Mar 31, Aug 13, 14, 16. This was a result of when my dad liked to take leave (he was a lifer in the US Navy).

It doesn't take many people in a room to make it very likely that at least two have the same birthday.
With 23 people in a room, there's a better than 50/50 chance that two of them will share a birthday.
With 57 people it is 99% certain.

I think those probabilities are based on random people ... what about the chances of repeating birthdays within adjacent generations of an extended family ?
Shane
-
Seems to me that "chance" (implying random) is not a relevant concept in determining something like this. You can increase your odds of repeating birth days across generations quite easily. Human gestation is approx 280 days (40 weeks). Any time you can control the outcome to any degree, chance is not relevant.

Nowadays it seems our records at the GP are kept under D.O.B. first and name seemingly second, everytime I ring for anything they ask for my D.O.B. before my name.

My grandfather's first child, my mother, was born on his birthday.

My grandmother was born & died on the same day.

How many of you have birthdays in September ... and hadn't already figured out it's nine months after Christmas/New Year? ;D
On a slightly different tack ... I had three brothers, two of them identical twins, ... and there was one day, every year for about eight or nine years, when one or another of them managed to need emergency treatment at the local hospital! By the fourth year, the staff were ready and waiting! Thankfully it was only ever one at a time - imagine the potential for confusion, if both identical twins had managed to need stitches or break a bone?!

My husband and youngest daughter share their birthday 8th July, we moved into our present house on the 8th July 1983 my husbands 30th birthday and the following year 8th July 1984 our youngest daughter was born. We celebrated their birthdays at the beginning of the month when our older daughter and her husband organised a suprise birthday meal for the family which was lovely. My husbands brother and sister who are twins (of course) share the same birthday.
Kind regards Susan

My friend and her son share the same birthday. She recently got married and her new hubby has the same birthday too - bizarre!

March 19 is the big day in my family. My sister and a first cousin. My daughter and my brother's daughter.
Once I started investigating the family tree, I discovered that my grandfather's brother also had a March 19 birthday.
A month or so ago, I was contacted by the great-granddaughter of my grandmother's oldest sister. Along the way, she mentioned that she felt a special kinship to one of her great-uncles because they shared a birthday - March 19.
-
I was born on my Dad's birthday. My mother's brother became my godfather - he too shares my birthday. Since then one of my 1st cousins has had a child on the same date.
-
That's strange - I just ran a list of birthdays on my gedcom file and found that my mother and her sister, both married men who were born on 14th June 1921!
-
I was born on my grandad's birthday.
My cousin was born on my sister's birthday.
My other grandad (born Xmas day) died on his wife's birthday and she also died on her birthday - which had been Coronation day.
Princess Diana died on #1 son's 18th birthday.
Zara Phillips was born on the same day as #2 son.
King George VI died on my mother's birthday.
I'm sure there were others too.
Phew!!
-
My eldest daughter was born on my Mums birthday. :D
My youngest daughter was born on my great grandmothers birthday. :D
My dad died on my wedding anniversary. :(

My uncle and I share a birthday, he is also my godfather 13th March, his ex wife (my godmother) and my ex husband share a birthday 9th July, we both got divorced in the same year ;D
My eldest son was born 21st Jan as was my ggg grandfather, I could have named Sam after him if I had known, Golden Harvey sounds good eh!!
Sadly August is a bad month for my mother's family, both her parent,s and three out of four grandparents died in August and December is the worst ever, I lost my dad at Christmas time, and his mother, brother and one great aunt all died in the same week several years apart.

My son was born 90 years to the day his gg grandfather was killed at the "Battle of the Somme".

I have numerous coincidental birthday/marriage/death dates - which I would have to look up. But interesting this year is a granddaughter turning 12 today on the 12th, another one turning 21 on the 21st September. 12 and 21 can be reversed. One was born 98 and the other 89 - also reversible

I can't do the maths, but I seem to remember that statistically you are more likely than not to find two people sharing a birthday in any group of 26 or more.
My daughter, mother-in-law and wife's cousin share a birthday.
So do my wife and my aunt (and Hitler)
-
You need 23 people to have a better than 50% chance of coincident birthdays.
If you really want the maths:
It's easiest to calculate by looking at probability of no matches.
First person's birthday is arbitrary
For second person not to match, must be born on any of the other 364 days, so probability 364/365 (ignoring leap years!)
For third person not to match either first or second, must be born on any of remaining 363 days. Probability of this 363/365, so probability of no match so far is now (364/365) * (363/365)
Keep adding people and multiplying - result goes below 0.5 at 23 people. That is probability of no match is less than 50%, so probability of at least one match is now more than 50%

My mum and one of my uncles both born 17th feb, another uncle and myself share 27th june and my dad and one of my cousins share the 2nd august.
My eldest son birthday is 30th july, dad's as I mentioned above is 2nd august and hubby's is 7th august. Very expensive week for me !
-

-
My mom and dad share the same birthday (different years though), My dad made up so many stories to impress her when they first met that she didn't believe he had the same birthday.
My paternal grandmother was born at the start of the 1st Word War, my dad was born at the start of the 2nd World War, and I was born in 1963 when there was the possibility of war breaking out again - scary :o

A friend of ours, and his wife, were both born on the same day, within an hour of each other, in the same hospital ... but didn't meet until many years later. Neither of them believed it at first, until the Birth Certificates were dragged out and compared.
-
My grandmother was born on 3 January. Exactly one year later her sister was born. On her 22nd birthday my grandmother gave birth to my mother. It made remembering birthdays easy ;D

I have a 'twin cousin' we were born same day -- same hospital... and the Nurses swopped us to see the reaction.... We both wonder if we were ever given back to the correct parents. ;D ;)

HI Xinia
My brother was born the same day and at the same hospital as our cousin. Both mother's were Mrs Lyall. We always wondered if they were muddled in the nursing hospital. Mum always said the nurses got it wrong.
Sadly my brother died at six months of age. Always had that thought if they were switched? I could still have a brother. (My cousin is a dead ringer for my father).

oooh I note you are searching in Leicester.. it wasnt Leicester was it? cos mine was... BUT I have been assured many many times that it was all a joke.. and we were given back to correct parents...Who were sisters in law so different surnames...
My cousin is too posh to be me and me well I am just me.... ;D ;D ;D convinced I am me and reasonably happy that I am..
As we grew we used each others names as our middle names and silly things like that. We didnt see each other for many years.. when we did however I realised she definately wasnt me.... ::) :D ;)
I do hope that your brother was the correct brother what a shame for your Mom to always wonder....

All this happened in New Zealand 1958. Back then the hospitals were very strict, no new mother was allowed out of bed for two weeks, and babies placed in the nursery, so how on earth would a new mum know if she has the right baby or not? (Mum lost 3 children and 1 miscarriage).
After a few days the nurses got fed up with mixing up the two boys, and decided to move my Aunt to another ward. Believe it or not the two sister in-laws were right beside each other? Both with the same surname, both with baby boys born the same day.
Anyway, I think mum ended up with the right child in the end, as my two sisters died from the same heart condition. (but then again it runs via my fathers side).
I guess this would be a different subject to post as I have gone of topic a bit.
Cheers
