Hi,
Just found out in the 1911 census that some of my family was in the Basford Union Institution (Workhouse) Highbury Vale, Bulwell, Nottingham and my Granddad was born there!
I have seen the Basford Union Register of Children, where it mentions the mother was sent to Prison on 2 Feb 1915 for neglecting the children! :'(
Question is, would she have been at the Magistrates court in Ilkeston (being they lived in Cotmanhay, Ilkeston)? And would they have been sent to Basford Union (I know Ilkeston many times come under Basford).
What prison would she be sent to? Nottingham? Derby? Other?
Lastly after all these questions are answered:
where would the magistrates records be found - Notts or Derbys RO? (According to Access to Archives they only have 1926-1969 at Derbys RO - where are the others?)
Thanks all,
Brit

Hi
As you are in Nottingham the best thing you can do is go to Notts Archives and see what they have got and how they can help you.
Kind regards
