Title: Poor law lookup - ROE Linch, Sussex please
Post by: LittleLondoner on Tuesday 20 July 10 20:01 BST (UK)
If anybody could help with this, I would be so grateful; this is my brick wall!!!!

I am trying to find out anything I can about SARAH ROE - all I know so far is that she had a son Jonathan born 30 Aug 1789 in Linch, Sussex. Jonathan appears to be illegitimate and Sarah is listed as a 'pauper'...are the poor law records for Linch where you would look next?

Any help most gratefully received... :)

The Sussex Record Society has Poor Law records online, but Linch is missing from its list of parishes. Maybe none have survived.

Interestingly, there is a Sarah ROW with a male bastard recorded in the database for Lyminster parish (which is in West Sussex, like Linch, but not particularly close). It's quite an odd record - the putative father appears deceased and his widow is named; there are three other men named, two of whom also have fatherhood assigned to them in the comments.

Unfortunately the date is over 30 years too early.
