Hi,
Myself and my husband are also looking to trace our family history. His grandmother's name was also Jane and had a brother called John. His father's name was Patrick and we believe that Jane only had one son and was never married. We originally thought she was from Ferns but recently found out that it was Tara Hill and she later moved to Ferns.
Could this be the same lady.
I would love to hear from you.

Hi noctord
My grandmother Jane Noctor was born in 1899 and married Michael Whelan and moved to Dublin.
If you look at the census above 1901 and 1911 the Jane Noctor (my grandmother is one of the children).
Her brother John Noctor is also one of the children in the 1911 census and he was born in 1907/1908 the one that we do not know what happened to (we think during the war 1920's maybe 30's)
My great grandmother listed above in census as Jane Noctor (married to John Noctor) her maiden name was Quinn
I do not think there is a connection sorry!!!

Yes I have Noctor descendants from Tara Hill. Currently researching my G-Great -Grandfather Andrew Noctor's brothers and sisters. Apparently they had 20 children? We have a good nine or more. They lived on or around Tara Hill. Their birth dates span from 1860 - 1880. I'm still searching for the other ten say. Have lots of gaps to fill :)
Andrews father was James Noctor1837 (m) Sarah Penston.

hi all
I too am researching my family three. My fathers Grandfather was Thomas Noctor , he lived in Ballycurry co. wicklow but I believe he hailed from Co. Wexford , possibly Gorey. All I currently know of him is that his wife's name was Mary and they were married in Rathdrum co wicklow in 1892. He had a brother Myles who served with the Royal Wicklow fusilier's.
If this fits in with anyone else's family I would love to hear from you.

I am descended from James Noctor & Sarah Penston Tara Hill also. They were my gr gr grandparents. They had 21 children. 19 boys and 2 girls. Many of the boys became carpenters as did many of their descendants. If you require me to give you any info to help you in your search, please pm me.

Hi all,
I have an Anne noctor (from Ballinclare) whom married a Charles Burke (from Ballywater/Ballygarret) in 1868.
It seems they had at least 8 children (One being my Great Grandfather Michael burke-born 1874)
I am trying to find out any info on these two people. I know from the marriage cert above that Anne's Father was called John Noctor and Charles Burkes Father was called Pat Burke.
If you think you have a match or are descended from these people then please message me :)
Thanks

Hello,
My family have long owned the lands on Tara Hill that once belonged to John and Jane Noctor. It’s a truly beautiful place, and I have many fond memories of camping there with my family from childhood well into my late twenties.
I’m currently trying to gather any historic photographs or information related to the laneway, house, piggery, or sheds that once stood on the property. I would be genuinely grateful for any help or memories of day to day life that others might be willing to share.
Many thanks in advance,
Michael

I also thought this might be of some interest to the Noctor Family which comes from www.duchas.ie
The Schools’ Collection, Volume 0888, Page 072.
I remember one day I was working in the Public work. There was an old man named Charlie Noctor a pot lifter. One windy day we went up to Ask quarry to drink the dinner. When I was getting the water for tea, Charlie went to get some sticks for the fire. He came back with an armful of sticks and a hoop thirty inches in circumference. He used it for a "boley". After a time it broke and he found out it was a collar of gold belonging to Malachy the King. He brought it to Dublin and sold it for £150. If he knew what it was before it broke it would have been worth £2,000. I dreamt one night that a witch went into a farmer's house and she said that if he gave her dinner she would tell him where there was a collar of gold.
So what I dreamt was true.

Hi Michael
John and Jane Noctor are my great grandparents. I would love to know where exactly on the hill (Tarahill) they lived, if you could point me in the right direction. I also would be interested in seeing photos etc of the lands and house. Nice to hear from you.

I am sure that I read somewhere just recently, that the name Noctor is often interchangeable with another name. The other name of course I cannot remember....!
Does this ring any bells with anyone?
-
Must be this
If you are going to trawl all the records in that area, it's possibly worth mentioning that around Magherafelt Connor can also appear as Nocher/Nogher. It’s a surname variant. Not an obvious one but you will find Nochers in the 1829 tithe applotment records for Magherafelt who appear as Connor in the 1831 census. Example here of John from Megargy:
https://www.irishgenealogyhub.com/derry/tithe-applotments/magherafelt-parish.php
https://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1831/Londonderry/Loughinshollon/Magherafelt/Megargin/22/
MacLysaght (The Surnames of Ireland) explains:
“MacConnor was formerly much used erroneously by officials eg Petty’s census enumerators, for O’Connor; the true MacConnors of Ulster are now usually called MacNaugher, No(c)her etc.”

Thank you! :)
Yes that is it but I see it is Nocher/Nogher and not Noctor as is the Wexford name. Close I guess?????
