Hi Chesapek

Catherine Curran and Francis Newlands were married in St. Andrew's R.C. church, Glasgow, on April 26th 1869.

You can view the Catholic register online at this website: www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk
You have to pay, but it costs very little!!

More importantly, you can also get the Scottish civil marriage record for the couple from this website, by searching 'marriages' in the statutory registers.
Catherine is recorded as 'Cath' Curran. Their marriage was registered in Lanark, in the district of Clyde, in 1869.

Only the Scottish civil marriage record will record both of Catherine's father and mother's names {including her mother's maiden name}, and will say if her parents were living or deceased at the time of her wedding.
You may be able to find Catherine's place of birth from baptismal records in Donegal from this information {if they exist!!}.
Good luck!!

I have Currans from Ramelton (Rathmelton) so was interested to read this post. I would be interested to know if you ever found out who Catherine's parents were.

Uddingston would not have been part of Glasgow but a village in the parish of Bothwell, Lanarkshire. (I live about 5 miles from there).
According to the 1881 census they lived at Udston, which is part of the town and parish of Hamilton, Lanarkshire.

The census reference is 1881 - 647 - 23 - 12. The address was 36 Udston Single Rows. (May have been 36 Single Row, Udston, Hamilton).
Francis and Catherine are there with 6 children.
All have the surname Newlands -

FRANCIS, head of house, married, aged 32, coal miner, born Oakley, county of Fife.
CATHERINE, wife, married, aged 27, born Ireland.
JAMES, son, aged 12, scholar, born Glasgow.
WILLIAM, son, aged 8, scholar, born Glasgow.
MATTHEW, son, aged 6, born Hamilton.
MARY JANE, daughter, aged 5, born Hamilton.
FRANCIS, son, aged 2, born Blantyre.
MAGGIE, aged 8 monnths, born Hamilton.

Glasgow, Hamilton and Blantyre are all in Lanarkshire.

Lodger.

Hi
Thanks for all the replies to this topic and yes Lodger this is the same Catherine Curran who was my gr gr grandmother I have copies of her marriage certificate and her death certificate it is a bit confussing because on her marriage certificate her father is named Patrick Curran but on her death certificate he is named as Edward Curran (her father was deceased when she married ) . Her Mother was  Jane Campbell but remarried and I think the name was Cairns or Cassidy Catherine died on the 11th March 1923 and lived at 36 Lindmans buildings Uddingston I do know that she did live in the Single Rows  at one point and when she married Francis she lived in 22 Bridgegate Glasgow and Francis lived in 97 Saltmarket Glasgow do you think this is the same Currans

Ree,

I don't think this is the same family. My Gt-grandfather was Joseph Curran, born about 1860. Parents Patrick Curran and Catherine Stevenson. The father of Patrick was Charles, don't know his mother's name.

Hi Lodger,

I have a Catherine Curran b.abt 1840 and a Patrick b. abt 1836.   Parents were Charles Curran and Catherine Grant.

Patrick and his wife Julia Mchale disappear after 1881 census in Greenock .  They had many children inc. a Bernard Joseph born in 1870 Leith Midlothian.

I know these are not a match for you but the names are so alike.

Some of Catherine family ended up in Glasgow.

Catherine and Patrick were born in Donegal, probably Inishowen.
