I am looking for the death of Robert Geddes possibly in Airdrie between 1858 and 1871. He was married to Catherine Collins who d. 17 Sep 1871 @ 40 Flowerhill St, Airdrie. I have looked on Scotlands people and not found him.
-
When did he marry and what was his occupation?
-
He was a coal miner, he was married before 1850 dont have any details
-
The only Robert Geddes I can find with a wife Catherine was on the 1851 census but this person was a cotton spiner, b 1808 Eaglesham, Renfrew and still living in Eaglesham. There is also a death of a Rober ged*s in 1855, Eaglesham. This couple had quite a few children but as the information doesn't match yours I think this is probably the wrong family.
-
There is this record for 1851 census
Catherin Geddes 47
John Geddes 17 occ coal miner
Robert Geddes 15 occ coal miner
James Geddes 11
Robert Ryan 26
Agness Ryan 18
Address Roughcraig Farm
If it is the right family then Robert snr died before 1851
-
Thankyou I have seen that record and the wife's age almost matches Catherine Collins. I thought John and Agnes were missing, however they seem to be there. It could be the right family, would it be likely for the Robert to change careers to coal mining so late in life?
-
Sorry didnt notice that was the census for Airdrie, that seems right. I dont know why I have him as having died after 1858, I will re-check my records.
-
Did Agnes marry Robert Ryan?
-
No I have her as marrying John Docherty, so am still not sure whether they are correct family
-
Who signed Catherine's death record?
-
Do you have Catherine on the 1861/1871 census?
-
Her son in law registered the death, name John Docherty.

Have you viewed the marriage record for Agnes to see if Robert was still alive?
1859 DOHERTY JOHN and GEDDES AGNES at AIRDRIE OR NEW MONKLAND /LAN
Was Agnes a widow?
-
There is this marriage on IGI which could fit with what you have found on the 1851 census Sancti:
ROBERT RYANS and AGNES GEDDES
Marriage: SEP 1850 in New Monkland

I have the wedding cert (1858) for John Geddes son of Robert Geddes both parents are listed as alive, this is why i say he died after 1858. I dont think that Agnes Geddes is mine as I have her as married to John Docherty
-
Have you checked the marriage record for Agnes to John Docherety?
-
No I havent checked the marriage of Agnes Geddes John Docherty as I got that information from someone else. I will check that out soon
-
This one looks interesting

The 1841 census entry that Ev posted looks to be the same family as the one from 1851 that Sancti posted...
