Title: Cullen's in Rathdrum
Post by: j_kfrazier on Saturday 17 July 10 23:43 BST (UK)
I am looking for some more detailed information regarding my family history. I was able to trace back to William Cullen b. 1796- d. 1859 marred to Esther b. 1799 -d. 1849. Seems that there must have been a large buriel plot for the Cullens at Kilcommon Graveyarrd. I did find some information in the 1901 Census for the the Grandchildren but I interested in what prominent businesses were there or what occupations were of some of the Cullens. Thank you

Hi, I know it's a while since you posted this but hopefully you'll see this reply.  I'm not sure if we may be related but I was standing in front of that grave last Saturday! I have a photograph - not very clear - of it if you would like a copy. My grandfather is buried right beside it and is also a Cullen. We were trying to figure out if William and Esther were related to us. (It may be conincidental that the two Cullens are side by side). My great grandfather would have been Charles Cullen married to Kate Barry, they would be on the 1901 census. We don't know the names of anyone before that on the Cullen side so if this is the same family, I'd appreciate any info.

Thank you

There seems to be some confusion, that Kilcommon cemetery is in Tinahely, there is another one 3km outside Rathdrum in the townland of Bahana/Kilcommon but I'm not sure if it's accessible to the public anymore, it's on a farmland. I might drive down and investigate.
I'm hoping that my GG granfather James Cullen and his wife Elizabeth Weddick are buried there.

I know this is an older post but I am also related to William and Esther they are 3G grandparents.
As far as our family know, the Cullens were primarily farmers in that area, their son James (my 2G grandfather) was a farmer, his son also Peter worked as a lime burner, regarded as one of the worst jobs ever. His son, also Peter, was my grandfather and he was also a farmer who owned land in Terenure Dublin. Their occupations are listed in the census forms and on marriage certs.
