I'm hoping someone can find him in the 1861 census and find out his wifes name for me please,
If not in Liverpool could be Wales but I'm not sure..he was listed as Widower in 1871 census.
Susannah Coates (nee Lewis) , husbands name would also be appreciated, she is also listed as Widow in 1871 census.
thank you Debbie Hughes

Just had a quick look for George's death but can't see anything obvious.

Luzzu,
in 1871, she has two children with her, Emily (8yrs) and Francis (11 Months) so based on the wedding date of 1869, Emily may have been Georges Daughter from a previous marriage, or Susannahs daughter, who took on the Coates surname. George T Coates was 10 in 1881, so he must have been born after the 1871 census. So if George was the father, he must have died around 1870-71. Emily and Francis are not with Susannah in 1881, I wonder what happened to them?

Mo,
if this is Elizabeth (nee Lewis) how could she be the daughter of Thomas & Jane Lloyd?
The elizabeth Lewis I have married a William Stevens, not Edward Davies, I wonder if it should have been brother-in-law, not son-in-law maybe I need to find out if Ann Lewis, who married John Lewis (Parents of Elizabeth Lewis) is Ann Lloyd...we shall see....!!!!

Hi,
I have just been trying to work it out myself. I can tell you that the Elizabeth Davies in that 1861 census was married to an Edward. They are together with the Lloyd family on the 1851 census.

Mo, how did you find them in the 1851 census...I can't....
Help please...!!!

Hi,
I remember now ;D The best thing is just to type in Edw Davies aged 23 or 1828 and place of birth Newmarket into the 1851 Wales census.
Reference is HO107/2500 Folio 21 page 6

Hi Debbie,
:D
in 1871, she has two children with her, Emily (8yrs) and Francis (11 Months) so based on the wedding date of 1869, Emily may have been Georges Daughter from a previous marriage, or Susannahs daughter, who took on the Coates surname. George T Coates was 10 in 1881, so he must have been born after the 1871 census. So if George was the father, he must have died around 1870-71. Emily and Francis are not with Susannah in 1881, I wonder what happened to them?
Still struggling with a death for George so thought I would look at the childrens' births to see if I could narrow it down and you did mention you couldn't find Emily and Francis in 1881 - neither can I but ....
I think this is Emily - 3rd qtr 1862 Liverpool 8b 121. Her birth certificate should tell you who her mother was and therefore the name of George's first wife - if indeed he had been married before. The George Coates/Susannah Lewis marriage certificate will tell you if he was a bachelor or widower in 1869.
I wonder if Emily died, aged 8 - 2nd qtr 1871 Liverpool 8b 87 ??? - she was there in 1871 but missing in 1881 and the 1871 census was taken on 2 Apr.
You mentioned a son - George T Coates who was 10 in 1881. There is also a son Francis Coates on the 1871 census, aged 11 months. I can't see a birth for either of them but .... there is:-
George Francis Coates
3rd qtr 1870 Liverpool 8b 103
Looking at the original 1881 census what has been transcribed as a "T" could very well be an "F".
So may be they are the same person ???.
In 1901, this might be him:-
129 Rilson Street, Toxteth Park, Liverpool
George F Coates 30 head mar commercial clerk born Liverpool
Ann Coates 28 wife mar born Liverpool
William F Coates 2 son born Liverpool
Fredrick Coates 3 weeks son born Liverpool
Class: RG13; Piece: 3437; Folio: 87; Page: 25.
There is a marriage on Lancs BMD - www.lancashirebmd.org.uk - in 1898 - George F Coates/Ann Price Walton St Mary Liverpool
Luzzu
-
I think this is a death for Susannah Coates:-
1st qtr 1898 West Derby 8b 278, aged 59
and she was in West Derby in 1891:-
William Stevens 50 head mar rigger born St Austell, Cornwall
Elizabeth Stevens 48 wife mar born Liverpool
Susannah Coates 52 sister in law wid born Liverpool
Class: RG12; Piece: 2964; Folio 17; Page 27; GSU roll: 6098074

Did you want an Edward Davies/Elizabeth Lloyd marriage?
1849 2nd quarter
Holywell vol 27 page 403
Edward Davies
Elizabeth Lloyd
Maria Lloyd
Hugh Roberts
In 1851, there is a Hugh/Maria Roberts couple at Graig which is close to Gop (I have Robertses from that area in my tree). So the other two might well be yours.
