Title: Mary Evans, Aberwheeler.
Post by: Brmaenda on Thursday 15 July 10 14:37 BST (UK)
Hello.
Does anyone have any information about the family of Mary Evans, my Great Grandmother. She was born abt 1819, and married Robert Jones abt 1843. Her place of birth on census records says she was born in Aberwheeler and lived  there until 1891,at least. I have census records of her and Robert living in Aberwheeler from at least 1851, possibly sooner. What I would like to know are the names of her Mother and Father and siblings. I haven't had any luck so far. Also, the birthplace of Robert Jones. I have found a few Robert Jones's born in 1818 Denbigh, which is listed as his birthplace, but I am not sure which one is the right one, to send for a b/certificate. Any ideas as to how I can sort this one out.
Thank you.
E.H.

For Aberwheeler, see the Genuki website. Bodfari Parish has further details.

Thank you Megran. I will get onto those sites now. There is a chance that I will find her and her family on 1841 census as she didn't marry till 1843
Thanks again.

Hi  Brmaenda,

I had a quick look at the 1841 census for Aberwheeler......only one family with the Evans surname, but no Mary!

If you do find them in the area, chances are they will be buried in Bodfari. (I live here, so if you can find the names, I'll go and have a look around the gravestones :)

You need the 1843 marriage cert to provide (hopefully) details of both fathers + occupations. Aberwheeler falls in the Ruthin registration district. Couldn't find Mary Evans marrying any Robert between 1841 and 1845 on FreeBMD for Ruthin.

FreeBMD has 4 instances of a Mary Evans + Robert Jones on the same page for Denbighshire between 1841 and 1844. Two of these are in 1843 in the registration district St Asaph (close to Aberwheeler?).

Might one of these be your Mary and Robert?

regards

Hello

On Northwales bmd, there's a Mary Evans with Robert Jones on the same page married 1843 at St Stephen, Bodfari

Registers at Denbighshire North (Rhyl)

Hello Morgan.
Thanks for that info, now I can send for a copy of their marriage certificate.
Now I am going to do a bit more searching!

Heitch.
Unfortunately I don't know of any family members of Mary, prior to her marriage to Robert Jones. I do believe that he is buried in St Stephens churchyard. As a child, I think I remember him being referred to as Jones the Nail. I wonder if Mary could be buried in the same grave. Thank you so much for the offer of looking round the graveyard for me.I really appreciate it.

Hanes Tuelu

I think you have the right ones. Sometimes I forget to try both counties, Denbighshire and Flintshire.

Heitch.

Hello. I inadvertantly deleted a RootsChat thread, so if you have sent any info about the graves of Mary Jones (nee Evans) and Robert Jones in Bodfari churchyard recently please don't think I am ignoring you. It is that I haven't received any new messages. I hope I have put things right now.
Thanks, Ena.

Hi Ena,
I went back to the graveyard, but no luck I'm afraid. There are a couple of "Robert Jones" graves which are legible, but none with a wife "Mary". Unfortunately the graves from the 1890's-early 1900's are in the worst state, (a lot of missing headstones and the laid down stones are covered with an inch or two of grass & moss) :'(

Thanks for your efforts Helen.
I dare say that one of the Robert Jones graves belong to G.Grand-dad.
Maybe Mary died earlier or was buried elsewhere. She is certainly elusive, can't find any info relating to her anywhere, before her marriage. I will just have to keep on digging (not in graveyards, of course!!)
Thanks again.
