James Hamilton of Bogside, Stonehouse d Feb 1879, his wife Mary Muter d 1874. In 1881 their children John (20), Elizabeth (23) Thomas Stewart (15) and Jane (11) were still there. Does anyone know where they went or what happened to them after 1881? Robert (18) was studying medicine in Glasgow and went on to practice in the Isle of Man where he died in 1922. Any leads appreciated.

There is an MI in Stonehouse churchyard for this family, the earliest date mentioned is 1809. The deaths of James and Mary are recorded on it but the only child of theirs is an un-named son who died 1872 aged 10 years.
You may already have this information, if not please let me know.

Thanks Lodger. I do have plenty of information about the ancestors of this family. I know that the daughter, Elizabeth, married James Gardiner and that they had 2 children by 1901. I think that her younger sister Jane was also with them in Stonehouse in 1901. I'm really looking for the two sons: John born in 1860 and Thomas Stewart born in 1866.

Hi.
In running a search on a John Hamilton/Jean Stewart (parents of Mary b.1803, Stonehouse) I have just picked up a transcription on FindMyPast referring to 'Boygoyde'. It struck me that this could be Bogside (?), so I am intrigued by this blog.
Mary Hamilton m. John Stewart 02 Dec 1820. Their dau. Elizabeth m. a William Mcqueen (of Eaglesham) 13 Jan 1849.
I would be interested to hear from anyone researching this line.
